Mosque Razed in Missouri

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Let's be real...news media generally targets white Americans who spend money. As a collective conscience, white Americans as a general rule aren't expected to sympathize or relate to anyone other than other white Americans. Doesn't mean they WON'T or CAN'T relate to Muslims/Hindus/Blacks/Hispanics/etc.

But you're generally going to find that stories that become transcendent top tier news stories involve (usually attractive or desirable) white people being victimized- often by other white people. Think Lacey and Scott Peterson, Natalee Holloway, Jon Benet Ramsey, Casey Anthony, Columbine, OJ Simpson, other school shootings...and now the Batman premiere shooter. Crimes committed against non-whites, especially if they're committed by non-whites...just will not get media play.

Trayvon was an interesting exception and I firmly believe that it vaulted itself to the level it did, because it was being presented over and over initially as a white on black crime- because of Zimmerman's last name.
Bumping because I said this in October 2012. I was thinking about stories like this and whether my thoughts on those types of things had changed because of Gabby Petito hitting mainstream.

How times have “changed?”.

I honestly hadn't heard anything about it/her until today.

I still don't know who she is besides a young, attractive white female. I'm guessing that's the reason the story has coverage. It's not like missing person cases are rare in this country.
