Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember how popular Jason Sehorn was for being the ONLY white corner in the league?

And for the record, currently there are zero white corners in the league.
I think his skin color was a factor, but being gorgeous, working in NY, and dating a beautiful Hollywood star were also factors.

Honestly we are witnessing a guy with hall of fame talent... he is a special player and glad the browns have him long term

He has that transcendent athleticism, like LeBron but way more likable and there’s a depth to his character. The sky is the limit.

can we change the title already...Myles Garrett future DPOY, one mane wrecking crew etc....something like that?

Can we keep it for just one more week until we smoke the Squeelers?

The fact that we’re talking about Myles Garrett in the same world as Aaron Donald is unreal. Donald may be the best defensive player I’ve ever watched (I’m 28).

If Myles gets second in DPOY to Donald then you just gotta hold your hands up and accept it. It won’t take away from the fact that Myles is leading one of the most dominant defensive lines in the NFL.

Is that sustainable for Myles? That kind of bending move while running top speed with that weight? Looks like most of his weight is put into his left side once he bends and that sounds risky.

He does it over and over again. Probably will be able to do it until his early 30's. Its an athletic play, so it will start to fade a few years after his prime, but we have 10 more years of it unless he gets an injury.

Really compares well to Bruce Smith, not quite Reggie, but I'll take Bruce.

Not really sure where to put this story, but it’s something I’ve never shared on this site before and it seems like a decent place to put it with this comment.

It’s honestly shocking to even say this, but Aaron is the most freakish athlete relative to his sport that I’ve ever seen up close and in person. This includes a Cavs vs Bucks game my brother and I attended in Milwaukee where we were in the 2nd row behind the basket next to the Cavs bench (yes, Giannis and LeBron both played that game).

Relative to this discussion, I got invited to a private workout last summer with Aaron along with a few other NFL players and some high level D1 guys. There were around 10-15 players there, most of whom you’d immediately recognize if I said all the names. There was an LT and a G who have multiple All-Pro selections each. There were two guys who are currently starting RBs in the NFL. There was a DT who has been to multiple Pro-Bowls and has at least one All-Pro selection. A couple WRs, DBs, and S that aren’t stars but play quite a bit. Then there was a CB and a S that I think will go in the top two rounds of this years draft.

All of that said, Aaron never lost a matchup running trough the speed, agility, and quickness drills. I actually don’t believe I ever saw him matchup against any of the other lineman because his foot speed was just so far beyond the other lineman it wasn’t a fair fight. He probably could‘ve lapped them in the drills if he really wanted to. Being 10 feet from him while he was going through that completely changed my perspective on what makes him so dominant at DT. To see a man that size, moving that fast was a bit terrifying. If he had more than 8% bodyfat at 270-280 I would be shocked.

Does Myles have that sort of crazy athletic advantage? I think so actually. I don’t think he has the sheer foot speed and quickness that Aaron does, but his ability to leverage his opponent, use his length, and overall speed might be in the same category. The only thing I’d potentially be worried with for Myles would be some type of knee issue down the road, but I don’t know if that‘s really a concern.

Also, if Aaron were to win another DPOY this year, he’d be only the third three time winner next to Lawrence Taylor and JJ Watt. He’s also only 29 years old. Crazy.

**Since people will probably ask why I was at a private workout with Aaron**

In 2019 I did a bunch of work for Aaron personally and his non-profit foundation. One of the main focuses was a free football camp he held at his high school for I think 225 kids. He went through an entire workout at full speed with these kids. I’m talking like 40 minutes of different strength and agility workouts where he was dripping sweat and worn-out at the end. It was just cool to see someone at that high a level as a player be so down to earth and give so much time and energy to these kids during a FREE camp.

The camp lasted nearly four hours. Aaron took maybe a 15 minute break to eat and that was it. After the camp was over, he stayed for what had to be an additional hour if not more to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone there, including people that just showed up in the stands to watch. At one point he saw about 20-30 kids around the concession stand. When he realized they didn’t have money to buy anything, he walked up and told the person running it to give any of the kids that came up whatever they want and he’d pay for it. Oh, he also gave away over $20,000 of apparel for attendees. It was money he donated to his organization, not corporate sponsorship or anything like that.

I know this is the Myles thread, but I thought it was worth sticking here Since Aaron was mentioned. He was legitimately everything you hope an athlete of that level to be: humble, relatable, great with kids, and extremely generous. What his foundation is doing for kids in Pittsburgh is pretty incredible.
