2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is the very thing I am talking about in another thread.
CBS sports was showing on their site LA made the pick..they still do, other sites show ATL making the pick.
It's a mess how this thing is structured because it's stupid.
Just announce the trade before the pick and all sites should show the current team making the pick not the former team..stop having these kids put on a hat that shows the team dealing them to another team.

Agree. And you lose that fan excitement in the building when it is announced there is a trade. I know it has something to do with when the league year starts in about a week or so but hard to imagine they couldn't either start the league year a few days earlier or push the draft back a couple of weeks. I am not sure 2/3 of the players were actually picked by the team that was really getting them.

If I knew a team had just traded out of the spot I was picked at, I'd chuck that hat back into the audience. :chuckle:

Like the Garland pick, legit NBA skill set. I'd have convinced myself on Garland, Culver and Cam at #5 with Hunter off the board. But of the 3, Garland actually showed the ability to make NBA shots, Culver and Cam seemed more rumored to make them.

I don't care about Sexton being on the team and fitting with Garland. If Altman and his team had Garland as best player available, then take him.

I never wanted Bol Bol, even when he slid past us at 26 (and 30). Maybe he will make people eat their words, but rumors that he doesn't like the game combined with his twig like build and a stress fracture in his foot were more than enough to take him off my proverbial big board.

What I did want was a trade up from 26 to the Heats pick for JR's contract and whatever boat anchor contract Gilbert would have to eat. At that point, I wanted the Cavs to take a shot at "potential" by picking Sekou.

Windler: when you pick late I'm a firm believer in taking a plus skill set and living with whatever deficiencies that guy has. Windler has a plus, plus jumper. In this era of NBA play, if you can't make a living as a great shooter with high hoops IQ and adequate athletic ability..

Porter Jr.: I didn't stay up for this pick. I think it saved the draft for Cavs-twitter though. The amount of whining going on about the Belmont Bomber and the missed opportunity of drafting Groot (if Groot only grew twigs for appendages) was quite something. I wonder what he did to get the boot from USC (he should have taken council with the women's rowing crew). Anyway, talented kid with nba body, a solid shot and plus athletic ability. Worth taking a gamble with the 600 protected second round picks we've collected.

I don't see a CJ/Dame backcourt. CJ's a legit 6'3" and Dame's a legit 6'2" and both play with some strength. Sexton is closer to 6' than 6'2" and Garland is closer to 6'1" than 6'3". I wonder if this will turn into a Price/KJ thing where one of them eventually gets traded for a starter at a different position who's number eventually gets retired despite the fact that he was more of a solid starter/role player than an all star on a great playoff team.

I digress.

Overall I was pleased with the draft.

Agree with a lot here. I just see Sexton eventually going to the bench and being the 6th man. He ought to be able to fill in for either guard spot in stints there and do some scoring against second stringers. Unless there's a ton of development in other areas, bench scorer seems like his best future role.

For me, Collin has proven he is an NBA player already. He did things as a rookie very few guys have ever done. I'd like to see Garland run the team pretty well before i take the reins from Collin. Maybe Garland is a great shooter, but his floor general game didn't show up in college and he turns the ball over more than Collin.

I just hope they treat both of these guys fairly and give them both the room they need to grow. I don't mind one coming out early and always having one on the floor at all times.

Culture is going to be very important going forward.

The best hopes left for us, after Bron's leaving, was Collin.

Geting out of this draft questioning his future and fit, it's just bitter.

I know all that Garland's upside bullshit, but I just don't got it. I mean, there was a lot of areas that we could focus, why bring questions on the best promising we had til there?

Hope I'm wrong.

I hope the organization does everything they can to make a Garland and Sexton work. Even if its just spreading their minutes so only one is on the floor at a time for the majority of the minutes of a game. Maybe one is just a starter by name and ends up taking the role of six man.

I don't think they should risk sending Sexton the bench anytime soon. That's a way just to lose a good player. Unless he gets beaten out by players better than him, he should be starting till this team is good enough to lose him to trade or free agency. He is currently is our second best player behind Love.

I think a good case study of what not to do is how the Boston handled Terry Rozier this year. He filled in as the starting PG for the playoffs in 2018 and showed he was a starting quality guard. Boston then sent him back to the bench and actually ended up reducing his role. Now he wants out and I doubt he signs an offer sheet he thinks the Celtics would match. My guess he waits for Boston to either rescind his qualifying offer or he plays on the qualifying offer to get out of Boston in a year.

Provided both Garland and Sexton are NBA quality starters, which I think is possible, it is going to be the main test of this coaching staff and front office. You have to get them to work together or get a good return for one of them.

For me I saw Collin as really wanting to compete, and doing great things for winning. I really hope some of the good assist games he had were a result of the game slowing down and weren't total anomalies. His ability to break down the D with his speed and shot are so good, he just needs to add that playmaking element. I do think drive and kick and some pick and roll passes should be his bread and butter.

I can definitely see it working and I can see them being a run and gun team who shoots a ton of threes. Navigating this Garland Sexton thing politically is going to be a tall task. Thankfully, I don't think either guy is a Kyrie or even a Dion. They are more team oriented guys.

- Zion is not ripped, but he’s not far from it. he clearly has a physique that can add pounds of any sort, very easily. He’s probably on PED’s, like most pro athletes, but I don’t care about that.
- Does anyone really see Zion getting fat and lazy? I guess it’s always possible but he seems to have a real passion for the game when he’s on the court. Seeing his reaction to going to New Orleans may be a cause for concern when paired with Cajun food, but again, who knows? To maintain his moderate BF%, he probably eats quite a bit or at least isn’t fond of cardio when he isn’t playing. I’d be pretty concerned about him ballooning IF he suffered a catastrophic injury like an ACL.
- I’ve been saying it for months, but there’s something odd about his gait. I’d have him run on one of those gait analysis machines to see how he’s loading his kinetic chain. I’m guessing it wouldn’t manifest until he’s older, but it’s good to know.
- He’s like LeBron in that he doesn’t really valgus knees. It’s one of the reasons LeBron has never suffered a major knee injury. Most NBA players are explosive but simultaneously weak in some areas, which can lead to injury. Zion looks strong and explosive in the legs. I haven’t looked at his landing technique closely
Well, I’m open to being hired by NBA teams

History's greatest monster

Hope we draft Garland, looks a promising prospect to me

Zion seems like he doesn’t have the it factor mentally for an nba career stays overweight and barely played so far
