Anyone been able to collect any yet? Essentially what it is, the NBA sells a certain number of "moments", which have limited available for each moment. Those moments are sold in "packs" much like you'd buy a trading card, and then stored in a digital wallet after you open your pack.

For example, today they released a Shining Stars pack which included various recent moments for all of the NBA all stars. These were listed as common moments, and the lowest availablility for them was 10,000 for some specific moments like Zion.

I haven't been able to get in yet, but for 14.99 per pack it seems like an absolute no brainer. Legendary moments for Zion with only 50 availability have sold for obver $200,000 dollars....

You can check out the marketplace here if you're interested:

Honestly seems like the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Collectible gifs that for whatever reason sell for absurds amount of money on everything.

Yeah, I'm not sure I really get this. These highlights are available for free all over the web. Why pay money?

Is the idea that they're like Pokemon cards? Just "official" collectible items?

You know what it is right?

"blockchain"

You throw blockchain into anything, idiots eat that shit up because of bitcoin.

I received a free pack back in January. Just opened it, sold the contents and bought a few....just because.

NFTs are so weird.

Yeah, official collectibles driven by the demand for them really. So far, no matter what you pull out of that 14.99 pack, you’re going to make some money off them.

There is a ton of hype around this stuff.... Pretty much the future of trading cards. Everything going digital.

Whats crazy is Panini has had their blockchain cards for awhile & they are universally laughed at.

I think they’re picking up steam though. I just looked and a Panini Embiid blockchain card just recently sold for 10,000 dollars...

Obviously the moments with the animation and everything seem to be a bit more desirable just due to the set up alone.

It’s all very cool and interesting and for 15 bucks a pack, it seems like a great time to get started imo.

Will be very interesting to see how the prices are affected as they release more and more and time goes by and hype sort of dies down.

Interesting.

A digital item isn't really a tangible item though; that's where I struggle with this. Anyone can get the exact same highlight online for free.

But you can't really do that with a physical item. I mean you could but it'd just be viewed in the same light as Chinese knockoffs on clothes.

I mean, it’s the same principle as a share of stock, or Bitcoin isn’t it?

Those are investments though that have defined value. Different than collectible items or memorabilia, though I see your point.

It will be interesting to see how TopShot grows beyond this initial hype.

I find the argument that a trading card is tangible to be a really funny one to be honest. It's a tiny printed sheet of thicker stock paper. I've never been a fan of the concept either way, but I do participate from time to time because of the money... Lol. I have a few moments and am trying to get in on the pack being released this weekend. Couldn't get in on the one released at noon but there's a drop at 8 EST. I think they've shut down signups so I'm hoping I get in on the action.

To me it's dumb, but also there are so many things with more than retail value, who am I to judge people who actually enjoy it.
