In addition to Tesla, SpaceX, the Boring Company, and OpenAI, Elon Musk founded Neuralink in July 2016. On Tuesday they had a presentation of what they've been working on these past 3 years. The first part went over the technical details of what they've built and how they built it (1000+ tiny sensors implanted in the brain to read the activity of neurons and send signals to the same neurons).

The potential applications of this technology starts here

Human trials expected to start next year, and I think the first case is to develop a mind/computer interface for paralyzed so they can control a computer including controlling the mouse and typing.

Longer term goal include things like restoring mobility (and speech if applicable) for the paralyzed, restoring sight for the blind, preventing seizures for people with epilepsy, treating chronic pain, Parkinson's disease, etc.

It sounds like science fiction, Musk has invested $100 million to make it a reality.

The worst thing is going to be transferring Billionaires minds into computers so they can take all of our resources and live for 10, 000 years.

That's not even remotely what Neuralink is doing,,

I'm most interested in the wireless communication technology they must have come up with. You'd need a high bandwidth, low latency, basically unhackable connection. Development of that would probably be worth more the than the brain sensor.

A top secret photo of such a device being tested has been leaked from an unknown insider working on Musk's team:

Oh no! Lawnmower Man!

But this seems like a great thing for those with mobility loss or other neurological issues.

How long until this is mandatory in everyone?

Rich man bad.
Make all the wisecracks you want, your won't be laughing when Elon ensures that Trump ends up as one of those immortal heads in a jar from Futurama.

So Black Mirror’s San Junipero is only a couple steps away from coming true? That was the only episode that actually made me feel good!
