New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Imdb can be manipulated by the studios etc, just go with Metacritic and rt
This. Any review system is easily manipulated. I personally know people who pay people to write product reviews on sites like Amazon & Rotten Tomatoes.

This is true to a certain extent. There’s still no way you’re going to get a shitty movie to be rated as a top movie. The masses will still rate it shit.

Products are little bit different and easier to manipulate as you have to actually purchase the product which is normally more expensive then a movie ticket/bootlegging/renting it/watching it on stream or tv in order to rate it. I’ve benefited from someone manipulating reviews on amazon by getting free product I didn’t order in the mail.

They've done a fantastic job of showing how the Soviet system itself kneecapped the ability to respond to the incident properly, as well as how it could happen in the first place. You tell your bosses what they want to hear, no matter what. Seeing that mindset, and the fear it created, is just fascinating.

But one of the absolute best scenes in that show so far was when they were explaining to that general that they needed someone to drive the truck right up to the remains of the reactor to get accurate dosimeter readings. The general said they'd need to get shielding, and he was told "the shielding won't be enough", and he says "Then I'll do it myself". Total badass.

@King Stannis

I rather like the evolution of Boris Shcherbina and his growing broship with Legasov.

They went from Boris threatening to have Legasov thrown out of an helicopter to being friends.

Knowing that they are sharing death together probably doesn't hurt in the bonding process. Boris, being the life-long party hack, values Valery's honesty rather than the canned answers everyone else gives him.

Look no further than their conversation in the park when he asked Legasov what the ramifications of their work would be. To me, that moment changed their entire dynamic given that they both are destined for doom

Scherbina also led the disaster response to the 1988 Armenian Earthquake.

I loved his speech to the plant workers trying to find three men to open the sluice gates:

"We have a 1000 years of sacrifice running through our veins. And every generation must know its sorrow. You will do it because it must be done."

Yeah, I don't trust any rating alone. Obviously big money can be paid to manipulate any rating. But it's still better than a Rotten Tomatoes. Which I think is a joke.

There's not many true great critics left - so I don't really enjoy critically acclaim horseshit fed at me. Roger Ebert was solid. Not perfect, but solid. And he passed away.

But you'll often see IMBD doesn't stand right up along Rotten Tomatoes, given its still a people based voting system. Not that I think its perfect.

Especially when it comes to newer stuff compared to older stuff. Its so slanted compared to older movies/shows, because not a lot of the newer generations watches them, and when they do it feels outdated to them. Some of it might, but some not as much.

Like a movie like Shawshank Redemption compared to Cool Hand Luke. Two similar genres/movies. Despite which movie you like more, no way in hell Shawshank should be ranked so heavily higher compared to a movie like Cool Hand Luke.

I think Cool Hand Luke personally is better, with way more ambiguous/dynamic characters, along with a more intriguing plot. Where Shawshank Redemption although great, feels too wishy washy and a big giant cliche. But done pretty fucking good though.

But over a million votes for Shawshank, and just over hundred thousand for a movie like Cool Hand Luke. It's just more people in the last 10 years are going to watch a movie more relevant, compared to movie that's over 40 years of age.

Rotten tomatoes also has a non critic voting.

Headline reminds me of the time I was watching boxing and the announcer said “he’s only had 5 fights and he’s already undefeated,”

Okay....

I didn't post the headline about the IMDB ratings of Chernobyl to start a debate about ratings, or to claim that Chernobyl actually is the greatest show of all time. So everyone who pointed out potential gaming of ratings, and that they are not always 100% reliable...I understand that.

I posted that link/headline simply to provide something other than just my own opinion about the quality of the series. Kind of in the friendly sense of "hey, you guys really should try to catch this show, and it's not just me saying it."

My mistake for not realizing ahead of time that so many people would react in an overly-literal manner.

I added it to my list to watch. The boxing quote was so funny and the already part just reminded me of that.

Sad that Chernobyl is ending tonight. It’s not often that a show comes around that is so incredibly anxiety-inducing and haunting in so many spots, despite the fact that we already know how it ends.

Just an incredibly well done miniseries. I do agree with the sentiments of others in here in that it should be rated/judged differently than a normal television show.

I'll just say that I personally found the last episode of Chernobyl, and the miniseries series as a whole, to be worth watching.

Really liked how they showed so many of the real people at the end.

The actors casted to play the 3 Soviets who were sentenced to 10 years hard labor, or what not, were dead ringers for the real life people.

I thought the writers did a fantastic job of explaining the how/why of the reactor explosion in lay terms. Very clever presentation.
