New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
spoiler-free/generalities: I was almost more terrified by the Tench family subplot than by the rest of the show this season.

I know, it has me on pins and needles.

Recently watched the first season of Harmonquest which, if you're unfamiliar, is a show from co-creator of Rick and Morty Dan Harmon where he, a few friends, and a different weekly celebrity guest play what is essentially Dungeons & Dragons in front of a live crowd. They improv as the characters in the story, and the show cuts between them sitting around a table live and an animated version of what is happening in the game (with animation that definitely reminds you of Rick and Morty).

If you like the kind of humor that Dan Harmon represents, you'll like the show.

Here's a good example of what you can expect:

I loved it. Lots of great laugh out loud moments and a few of the guest stars are spectacular, particularly Nanjiani, John Hodgman, and Thomas Middleditch. The animation is fun and I like the way it alternates between them in real life and the cartoon that represents the game.

Highly recommended.

The new season of Mindhunter is good.

I really dig the criminal aspect of psychology. @The Oi

@Hydroponic3385 have you ever dealt with the behavioral aspect of criminals?

Not especially. Had a 6-month practicum where 1 of my days was spent at a halfway house for recently released inmates. But mostly did initial intakes and helped co-facilitate a parenting skills group.

Nice. What did you guys teach at the parenting skills group?

Bill burrs special was so fucking hackey. I cannot believe this was a special. He has podcasts that are better written.

Dave chappellrs was brilliant

If you're not watching Succession yet, you're missing out on one of the best family dramas HBO's put on-screen.

Undone on Amazon is something original. Like a graphic novel come to life on the screen with a sci-fi/mental health thing going on and Bob Odenkirk lurking around.

3 episodes in and I'm liking it a lot.

Finally getting to Outlander.

Not bad. Dude is hot.

Anyone check out AHS 1984?

I might give it a shot, like the idea.

Didn't know exactly where to put this, but I signed up for the Xbox game pass recently and decided to play the remaster of the original Gears of War. I got to the part where you rescue Cole Train and that led me down the rabbit hole to re-watching the Terry Tate Office Linebacker videos (same actor), which I had last watched maybe a decade or more ago.

I was shocked by how amazingly well they held up.

These would never get made today.

New fall shows that's I've watched so far.

Bob (hearts) Abishola: This is basically a more diverse version of Mike and Molly. I'll probably give it a couple more episodes to make a decision if I'll keep watching. It will be a show that I just put on more than look forward to watching.

Emergence: I like the premise and hope it can build off the first episode. It seems like one of those shows that comes up every year that tries to be a mystery like Lost but can't last past the first season.

Stumptown: This just seems like a show that will be fun every week. It has a solid cast and it should have good source material since it's a adaptation from a comic.

Harmony: Seems like a comedy that fits into NBC's line up. Probably will watch it because I just like watching comedies. Not sure if it has anything to it that will make it long lasting.

Sunnyside: Another comedy but I think the cast of this has more potential and the premise is unique. Weird characters usually make for good comedies.

Carol's Second Act: Saying this a bad version of Scrubs might be too much of a compliment. I think they knew it was show that might be dead in the water so they added Ashley Tisdale in the scene at the credits. I'll give it one more episode to see is Tisdale make a difference but I don't have high hopes.

The Unicorn: A good cast that seems more hand picked than any other new comedy. If I had to bet on a comedy lasting and doing well, it would be this one. It just seems to have the mass appeal like Modern Family or Life in Pieces.

Evil: I think the premise of this is better than the actual execution of the show. After the pilot it feels like they can go in two very different directions. I'm hoping they go towards the supernatural but it seems like they want to disprove these potential supernatural events. It could get very boring and bad very quick.

How in the blue fuck have you watched all these shows?

And perhaps a better question...instead of watching bad network shows, have you considered watching actually good cable shows? Of which there are seemingly thousands at this point.

I watch alot of tv. Most of those are 30 minute comedies. I usually watch most of the new network stuff to see if I like anything. Fox basically punting the year at least helps to lessen the load. I don't have high hopes for most of this year's crop though.

I do watch cable shows too. I don't agree that network shows are crap, there are alot of good ones. They are just more hit or miss which is why I try to give them a chance when they premiere in the fall.

I probably went a bit too aggressive by just labeling them crap. The issue, to me, is that very few network shows tend to measure up to the literally dozens of cable shows I already don't have time to watch.

The only network show that has moved the needle for me the past few years was AP Bio, which I found to be really funny and very enjoyable. Other than that, there's not really a network show I can point to that I would watch over something like forty different cable shows.

I liked AP Bio, I wish they didn't cancel it. I watch alot of comedies in the background instead of putting on ESPN or news. I'm also not of fan of reality shows and procedural dramas which seems like so much of network and cable TV now.

I also find that cable and the streaming services won't schedule many shows against the fall network premieres until people really decide what shows they are watching from the networks.
