Watched season three of The Deuce this weekend. Not sure anyone creates compelling regular people quite like David Simon. Those last few episodes hit pretty hard.
Overall, it's not The Wire (nothing is), but it was a damn good show with a lot of memorable characters and, like most Simon shows, really has a sense of place like few other filmmakers can create. You watch it and it is New York, like The Wire was Baltimore and Treme was New Orleans.
