Yeah, lots of liberties. But a well done show I thought. The actor they had to play Washington was very good I thought. Looked like him.
The Simcoe thing is rather hilarious when one looks up the real Simcoe, who has a very good reputation and is a founding father of Canada... Big time abolitionist, worked to help the Indians as well.
Tallmadge was well played. Well portrays these super young officers who are given an enormous amount of responsibility. It is hard to convey to folks who have not been in the military what exactly staff officers do, and what measure of importance they have, but the show does a good job.
There are always two wars going on: The one on the front, and the one at HQ. You can't win without good staff officers, as Napoleon found out during the 100 Days, and they never get the credit they deserve.
What the show did well that is unsaid, is that while some staff officers are important, it is really only the handful of good staff officers that pull the weight for the rest. 65% of staff officers are cast-offs placed somewhere where they can't do harm, and those in-between field commands... that is checked out. Good dedicated staff officers are worth their weight in gold.
