New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am still refusing to watch "Rise of Empires: Ottoman."

The Crown does not recognize the legitimacy of the Ottoman Empire, nor the fall of the Roman Empire.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. It's still too soon for what happened in 1453.

I am so ashamed of myself I waited so long to watch Peaky Blinders. All I've done the last 10 days is watch that show and football.

such a great show

Man, no idea how I missed The Shield. Been watching for the past month on Hulu. Took a few episodes to get going and it’s clearly a bit dated but holy hell it’s great.

Just started season 5.

One of the five best TV shows ever made in my opinion. Just wait until the end, man. The last season can be a bit weak at times but the ending is legit the best in television history. Some might argue for Breaking Bad but I thought that show's ending was a little too neat. The Shield does a better job of making it feel like everyone gets what they deserve while still being satisfying.

Season five is probably the best in the show's entire run, with four probably being the runner up and then two after that. Kavanaugh is such an incredible foe for Vic and the Strike Team. The Shield in general had some awesome guest performances from people like Whitaker, Glenn Close, and Anthony Anderson.

This thread is on page 420, just saying.

I haven't really felt like watching anything new lately, so instead I've been going back and rewatching some great shows. Did a Spartacus rewatch. That show is always a ton of fun. I just leave it on in the background during work and half pay attention until something cool happens.

Burnt right through Snowfall next. The new season starts in a month and I wanted to get caught up. If you guys haven't seen this one, it's yet another fantastic FX drama. Snowfall is about the rise of the crack epidemic in LA and feels a lot like a companion series to the original Narcos on Netflix, with that series portraying the Colombian side of the story and Snowfall focusing on mostly the fallout in the US.

Wrapped that up earlier today and now I'm moving on to Banshee, which has a lot in common with Spartacus in that it's big, dumb, loud, and constant fun.

Finished season 5 of The Shield. Goddamit. I simultaneously love and absolutely hate shows that get me so invested that they temporarily affect my mood.

Why you have to do that Shane?!?! FUCK

One thing I love about The Shield is the way the show kind of tricks you into thinking Vic and his team are the good guys by having the actual good guys trying to take him down be guys like Kavanaugh who are unlikeable and self-righteous or guys like Aceveda who are slimy and only targeting Vic because it will help his political career. Plus you've got guys like Ronnie and Lem who are dirty but not to the extent that Vic and Shane are and just kind of get caught up in the ever-escalating shitstorm.

And of course a lot of the villains on the show are even more terrible than Vic or Shane, so that helps too.

It’s a pretty interesting dynamic. I find myself rooting for the Strike Team, and some of them are better than others, but they definitely aren’t good guys. They are mostly pitted against the absolute scum of the earth so like you said, that helps. And it’s not like the guys have zero redeeming qualities- they’re pretty likable much lf the time. But I keep finding myself going back to the pilot. Almost seems out of place at times. I’d be interested to read more about the development of the show when I’m done and if there is any regret in how those events went down or if it was intentional. Mackey and the team at least to where I am never come close to reaching those levels of bad from the pilot.

Will keep watching!

The stuff from the first episode will be revisited. I don't think there's any regret because of how important that moment is to the entire series. It falls away at times as the show focuses on other plots but they always come back to that moment.

With how up and down that first season was, I would imagine it may have been better to at least draw that out.

Either way I’ll have a full commentary when I’m done. Balls deep into season 6 already so nearing the end. It’s pretty clear this is going to be about as emotionally devastating of a show as I’ve seen.
