New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
the actress learned to play the cello so she could play it for real in the one scene. That was such a great scene, the dance she did was great too.
Finished Wednesday tonight. On a Wednesday.

I liked it. My daughter loved it.

If anyone is curious, the lead actress is 20.

His dark materials. I don’t know.. I’ve read the books, nothing special. Season 3.. bad. Some nonsensical story solutions and complications. Telemundo level…

Sad to hear. I really enjoyed season 1 but never got around to season 2

Has anybody watched the Casey Anthony doc on Peacock?
I just finished the first episode and I have no idea what to believe. She seems genuine but she's admittedly a pathological liar.
Interested to see when the last time she saw her daughter was. The girl was missing for 31 days prior to it being reported.
She is so fucking full of shit it's hard to watch

So not only did HBO cancel the final season of Westworld that finishes the story, they're now apparently planning to pull the series completely from HBO Max.

I don't understand why things get pulled from streaming services. Yes, they have to pay residuals if people watch, but what kind of streaming services wants people to stop watching their content.

It is surprising they'd turn away from Westworld on HBO Max if for no other reason than Season 1. Season 1 Westworld is right up there with some of my favorite seasons of television they've ever produced.

Same here.

I haven't watched seasons 3 or 4, but planned to some day. I'm quite annoyed with them.

Two simple possible answers on both of those shows.

1. Being paid a good sum by another streaming service(Netflix? Amazon?) who wants an exclusive window of being the only service to have it. After that window is finished, HBO puts it back up.

2. Some sort of legal/contract dispute with the showrunners. (Way less likely)

I highly doubt HBO is planning to erase or suppress either show on any type of long term basis.

But yes, still annoying if you’re an HBO subscriber

Maybe they found another streaming service willing to pick it up when HBO decided they didn't want it?

If I recall, didn't HBO commit to paying the cast and crew for the final season? Or am I confusing it with a different show? If that's the case, I could see them allowing another service to grab it and take it off their hands, which would absolve them of having to pay what they promised.

Hopefully.

Nolan/Joy, have had an exclusive moving forward deal with Amazon Sttudios for all their TV projects with the exception of WW since 2019 so hopefully the can at least complete season 5 there.

This could be some good will to the creators so they can shop it. They can then shop it as an overall package of previous seasons and a final season.

They don't want to burn a bridge with good creators because they could have the next hit tv show and refuse to take it to HBO.

I also think the current overall streaming model doesn't make it as profitable as the cable/broadcast model that then sold shows to streamers. They have to figure out how to monetize shows on a larger scale and push them to different subscriber bases.

Even if they don't make other seasons on another platform, HBO pulling it gives them the ability to sell it to another platform and basically open up another revenue stream. I think they are realizing they are loosing out on the second viewing revenue stream that they once had. By second viewing, I don't just mean reruns but also people who watched the show after it initially aired, be it month or years later.

The demographics of how people view shows is different and can depend on the show but broadcast/cable initial showings then selling it to international and steaming outlets or for reruns on another network created alot of revenue. An all in one model might have seemed like a good idea but I think it killed a lot of their revenue streams. Selling a show after it aired for a set price for a certain amount of years is guaranteed money, it's hard to measure how much a show brings in to a streaming platform as a library addition with an all in one model.
