NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kenny Pickett has the worst name ever really.

Love it.

Has Pickett actually looked shitty? I have a hard time believing tweets from non-verified twitter accounts i dont know.

I know he's gone multiple competitive practice periods without completing a pass.

The Steelers and Ravens did us a favor this year. I love their picks later down the board, but I think Kyle Hamilton and Kenny Pickett were terrible first round picks.

Interested to why you’re down on Hamilton.

I’m down too if they’re going to play him in the slot or in man against anyone besides a TE. But there’s a very clear way to get a large benefit from him.

I'm interested to know why people like Hamilton, other than the fact that a lot of draft websites had him ranked super high early on. What do you actually see in the prospect that makes you think he'll be a stud at the next level?

I see a player who's expected to play in the secondary, but lacks the ability to cover downfield. For Hamilton, my best case is a box safety/linebacker hybrid like Keanu Neal. I think Neal also benefits from a shorter stature that helps him sift through traffic better than Hamilton.

Taking a player like that so high in the draft is a waste of an asset, in my opinion. However, I think it's even juicier because I project them to try and make Hamilton work more as a pure safety, until finally realizing he can't do it. That means their defense gets worse on the field while they get stubborn about their pick.

We'll see. Betting against the Ravens when it comes to personnel and talent evaluation is usually a stupid bet. But in this case, it's what my eyes tell me.

I see him in a very similar manner (comp not withstanding). I actually overvalue that type of player, especially in the modern NFL where teams want space. An in the box safety who can cover ground has incredibly value to me. If say, we had Kyle Hamilton, I’d want them to use him similar to how Budda Baker is used in AZ, sans the coverage as a nickel. Basically, ten yards and in? Kyle Hamilton has value. 10+? I start to question it.

I also hope the Ravens use him like Seattle uses Adams, where they completely eliminate him from all of his strengths and amplify his weaknesses. I just struggle to believe the Ravens do it.

Edit- to clarify the Baker point- Kyle Hamilton can only dream of being Baker. But the way Baker is used as a free roam tackler underneath is where Hamilton can succeed- if he demonstrates the instincts.

If I'm building a defense, I value coverage and interior pass rush as the two premiums I want to focus on. Edge pressure comes next, and linebackers come last. That's not to say it's the only way to build a defense--just my personal preference.

I think one of the most important positions in the modern NFL is the slot corner. Sometimes it's called the Apex Defender, Star or Monster depending on the defensive scheme and language. That player not only has the most difficult coverage assignment (because they don't have the luxury of using the boundary) but they are also critical in run fits.

If I projected Hamilton as someone who would thrive in that role, I'd love the pick. I just don't think he can do that. I think they took a premium asset (pick #15) and turned it into a non-premium one.

How does an owner get suspended? By that i mean, what are the actual punishments? Can he not walk onto the facility? Not sign the checks? Not sit in their box at games?
