Understanding that I would prefer we land Mike Bibby, in the event we cannot swing the deal for the man we want, What about Marcus Banks.

He is 10/13 from three point land in January. Has not played much, but he is the right physical blue print for a point guard and has played well when he got decent minutes in Minneapolis where he showed that he has more point guard in him than Damon Jones. While his contract is longer than we might want, I am thinking the Suns would give him up for Ira and Shannon straight up because it would save them 8 milion dollars next year. .

He'd cost us 8m next year, though. If they want to move him badly enough, they'll take Damon Jones for him, and send us a first round pick. Otherwise he's not worth messing around with.

In reading hoopshype for the past few months, I've noticed that the majority of GMs are maneuvering for cap space in 2009, just like Ferry. This does two things:

1. Makes aquiring players with one or two years left on their contracts such as Kidd, Miller, and Bibby more difficult.

2. Makes players with longer contracts far less desirable across the league.

If we go about taking on a player with the contract length of Marcus Banks for expiring contracts, we better be getting picks in the deal as well. For now, Ferry is sticking with the cap space (and refreshed roster) in 2009 plan, for better or worse.
