TOKYO - A defiant North Korea test-fired a long-range missile Wednesday that may be capable of reaching America, but it failed seconds after launch, U.S. officials said. The North also tested four of shorter range in an exercise the White House termed "a provocation" but not an immediate threat.
The audacious military tests by isolated communist nation came despite stern warnings from the United States and Japan — and carried out as the U.S. celebrated the Fourth of July and launched the space shuttle.
None of the missiles made it as far as Japan. The Japanese government said all landed in the Sea of Japan between Japan and the Korean Peninsula.

This North Korean leader is seriously a psychopath. He has no regard for the safety or well being for his own people. All he wants to do is make history and be remembered. He is a serious threat to us all.
That statement saying it's just a provocation not a threat is complete garbage. This is the biggest warning sign that they are intending to do something. I'm not sure how clear cut Bush expects it to be. I don't want 9/11 all over again or even worse.
Firing test missiles to see how far they can go is basically saying "Yeah we wanna see if we can hit you yet" without actually saying it.
This regime is a joke and if they don't get the **** out of Iraq trying to fight over oil which is hilarious because gas is 3 bux a gallon where I live then we're going to be vaporized.
This guy doesn't care, he wants to go down in history for something monumental, he's talking along the lines of Hitler and Mussolini. We better get in there and disarm a country who poses a threat with known weapons instead of a wild goose chase in Iraq.
Most importantly...They have an arsenal that includes 7 ATOMIC BOMBS yes folks SIETE BOMBS. Not to mention intelligence is reporting they are nearly finished with their first Nuclear Bomb. It's one thing for the US and Russia to have them because they are stable, but this guy has the mental stability of a heavily intoxicated Ron Artest.
I think we need to send about 30 B-52's accompanied by some Russian air fighters and several Japanese Kamakaze Pilots and completely turn that into a bombed out field of nothing. And while we're at it we can nail every single ally.
We have to act quickly, we can't wait to be attacked becaus e who knows the severity of the attack if they have atomic weaponry. I'm seriously sweating bullets :thumbdown It's too bad our captain is braindead at the wheel.
