NYPD murder 23 year old Sean Bell

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The reason I posted this is because it is alarming news that needs to be heard by fellow citizens. Yes in all jobs people do make mistakes and abuse power, but this is different than a cop cutting in line for a ps3. Yes police keep order and we need them I understand that.

As for a solution, I am not in any power to change something instantly. But I would be for some sort of psychological evaluation and anger management studies. There is plenty that can be done to prevent situations like this. Proper training and interviewing comes to mind.

"but this guy was at a strip club in jamica queens, at 4 in the morning"
Does that make it okay? Hell no.

A 80 something year old grandmother was shot and killed in Atlanta this week and Chicago cops killed another young man too. It isn't just happening to people at strip clubs at 4am. It could happen to you too. And that is why you should care. If everybody throws their arms in the air and says sh*t happens, then things like this will continue and happen more often. Police brutality is a growing problem in the US and needs to be addressed.

it can happen to you, but if you are going to live your life based on the fear that "a cop may shoot me" you will live a very boring life. i never said none of this isnt sad, but its up to elected officials to represent people on issues such as these. police brutality isnt anything new, i live 10 miles from a city with the highest murder per capita (washington dc) and about 50 miles from a city thats drug problems, murder problems rival those of gary, indiana, and compton, california. that is baltimore, did you know if baltimore has the population of NYC, there would be 3,000 murders per year? crime is a problem everywhere, cops are under all kinds of stresses, i dont like police very much, i think they concentrate their efforts over petty insignificate things. i had a friend who was killed over the summer. the person who killed him...still out there breathing like me and you. 1 bad cop doesnt make them all bad.

One bad cop doesn't make them all bad but for the reasons that you just named about crime make them accepted. Just like kev said it can happen to you or me, could happen to your parents could happen to anybody. How would you feel if a cop opened fire on a suspect and killed your child or another family member or friend and wasn't even aiming for them.

The problem is people thinking "hey im not doing anything wrong they won't come after me". Anytime something like this happens people need to make noise. It's not about living in fear of the cops either its the fact that they are supposed to help people but they are the ones that are the cowards so they shoot first and then hold an investigation later.

As Martin Niemoller said "In Germany, they first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Catholic. Then they came for me -- and by that time there was nobody left to speak up."

That is why you must always speak out against injustice James. Can never say you don't care because it doesn't concern you at the time. I agree 1 person on their own can't change the world but 1 person can change 1 person and thats all it takes really....
