Hope this was the perfect storm to humble OBJ and act as a catalyst to fix this working relationship.

The team was a possession from competing for a Super Bowl berth without you. Show up to all team functions (mandatory or voluntary), stop wearing jewelry and illegal items that serve as distractions, tighten up the route running and eliminate the freelancing, collaborate with your QB, and let's go win a Super Bowl.

It's in everyone's best interest to make this work.

So this is where I have a problem. Why does Odell need to be "humbled"? What has he done that leads anyone to believe his ego is the/an issue? I haven't heard him demand the ball, or put himself above the team. If you'd like him to attend all workouts, that's a fair ask. The jewelry thing is a silly request since a bunch of dudes wear jewelry in games. Odell is one of the best, and most willing blockers as a WR and celebrates his teammates success as much as anyone.

The "be humbled" thing feels like a loaded comment. One id love to see you clarify before I assume.

Not a loaded comment. I'm open to different verbiage besides "humbled". I'm just searching for answers like everyone else...Odell included, probably.

The fact is that there was a lot of hype and big expectations when he joined the team. For whatever reason, those things have not panned out at all. Instead of watching Odell's play lead to wins, we have mostly watched Odell opt out of voluntary workouts, display a lack of cohesiveness with the QB, and argue with the NFL rules about wearing bulky watches and tinted facemasks in games.

I don't expect the guy to be Nick Chubb, but I think it's fair to wonder why the ratio of performance to disappointment can't be improved. :dunno:

I'll bite. I'd like to see Odell be more humble than taking his shoes off before the game is over and jawing back and forth with fans on the road as his team is getting completely blown out. That moment is always going to stick in my mind.

How is that needing to be "humbled"?

I was at the Baltimore game last season and watched Baker curse out *Browns* fans...the talk was about him "growing up," not being "humbled." Again, very loaded language.

It would seem you take more issue with the word itself than the point being made, so I don't think we'll agree here.

I also felt last year that Baker needed to be humbled, and those actions would have been a prime example why. I believe he was, and it showed this year. Call it what you will, but I want to see more maturity/humility/whatever from OBJ going forward.

Yes, im concerned with language, because language has meaning. I dont do dog whistles and will call them out when I see/hear them.

The funny thing about “dog whistles” is it’s suppose to be coded language for your tribe. However, it always seems like only the opposing tribe hears these “dog whistles.”

And the meaning to you doesn’t necessarily equate to the meaning of the speaker, as has been explained here.

I was ready to let this die, but the accusatory leap to “dog whistle” is not only insulting and condescending but also forces me to continue this discourse to defend myself from your insinuation of racism. This is why we can’t have nice things.

Humility has been a theme in sports and any other type of competition since the dawn of time. There was no hidden meaning to uncover.

Which is why I asked the question and said, literally, "I'd like to let you explain rather than assume," but, by all means, continue the thread.
