I understand he opens things up for other guys, but our inability to attack the defense vertically appears to be the one weakness of this offense.

Well Odell certainly has been getting open downfield this season. So have other receivers. We just don’t attack.

Why?

The Legend of Odell in Cleveland has always been substantially greater than the player that is Odell

People are starting to come around on it, but a lot of times people beat around the bush and say things like "look everyone knows Odell is a great talent, but he and Baker aren't on the same page"

I didn't watch many Giants games because the NFC East is the most boring football division to me. But I have watched every snap Odell has taken as a Brown. And I do not agree that he is a great talent. I think he is pretty mediocre. If there is ever a play that isn't absolutely routine to make, he rarely makes it. And then even with the routine plays he is inconsistent on them.

I just don't think he's a good football player. Landry is our best WR and I don't think it's particularly close. it will be cool when he is off the Browns though to hear what the excuses are for why he doesn't produce in his next landing spot

Landry and Odell play two different roles.

We make it look so damn hard to get the ball in his hands. Granted, he flat dropped a 4th down pass that he might have sprang for a TD, but you see a lot of teams constantly feeding their best WR and we make it look so difficult. I understand he opens things up for other guys, but our inability to attack the defense vertically appears to be the one weakness of this offense. When everything happens from the run game or short passes, it makes it difficult to over come penalties or get down the field in a hurry late in games.

We drafted Schwartz to go vertical. The only problem is he can’t catch

Landry and Odell play two different roles.

Doesn’t mean that Landry isn’t better in their respective roles.

Again, I can’t stress this enough; Landry’s roll as a WR is the most important in the entire scheme. I thought, after week 1, that Odell would roll into Landry and that Schwartz would act as the field stretcher.

Yeah kind of. Just so happens that he was wide open and missed.

But……………..

He’s not a decoy then right?

Here’s my problem with this discussion. The argument isn’t if Odell is a decoy or not. The real argument is can Odell get open. The answer is yes. He gets open. A lot.

So if he gets open a lot, why is he not more involved?

Idk.

Browns have scored 25+ in 2 of the 3 games that he's played, so I don't see the issue, at all.

Why would you think that?

Because your most talented player should become your primary weapon, not a decoy.

Odell has played in three games, and was a decoy in two of them. And the one he wasn’t, Baker was fucking horrid.

You’re starting to get it now……..

Remove the Minny game.

Can you show individual plays where he was open, let alone a lot?

I’ve referenced this to you multiple times; a large chunk of routes are dummy routes. And he runs a TON of them.

When he’s open on a play, he could not even be a progression. That can’t be overstated. We don’t prioritize him with routes that matter.

You’re starting to get it now……..

I’ve been consistent with my takes this entire time.

Factually, Odell is wildly misused by KS.

And if that continues, Odell is cashing checks to be a decoy.

He’s got home run hitting potential, but we once again don’t seem to be able to get him the ball. He came out and impacted the KC game right away, but now he gets a target a game on a deep ball and that’s it. Feels like the offensive creativity really dried up once Landry went down.

It feels odd to nit pick an offense that just dropped 40+, but the reality is there is almost no margin for error against KC, LAC and Buffalo because it’s almost a given those teams are putting 5 or 6 TDS on this D. We bog down for even half a quarter aagainst the Chiefs and Chargers and look what happens. Games that you’ve controlled from the start quickly turn into losses.
