I don't know how much more time is needed to figure out that the Baker-Beckham connection simply does not work.. For all intensive purposes, it should work but it just doesn't... You can pull out stats or pull out film to say why it should work or to identify missed opportunities but point blank, the connection is just not there...

That's why this off-season the Browns have to make a decision to keep Baker or Beckham, as the duo have run their course...

I say that more so from a long-term sustainability perspective then simply saying it's Baker or Beckham's fault..

If the Browns want to keep Baker, Beckham is not worth the money he is making for the low-level production you get back especially when the money is likely needed to support internal talent retention and there are plenty of weapons now available in the supporting cast where Beckham's skillset is not needed like it once was..

If the Browns move on from Baker, I think you at least explore what the next QBs connection with Beckham considering what he is capable of..

To me, you can't run this current connection back knowing it does not work and the cost and effect it has on the rest of the roster..

This isn't saying it's Baker's fault or Beckham's fault, as much as the ROI is simply not there to support the duo any more...

Bingo.

If the Browns can swing a trade for Rodgers or Wilson, keeping OBJ probably makes sense.

Otherwise, let OBJ walk and draft his replacement...Chris Olave, anyone?

Agreed.

The catch% just isn't there. Blame it 100% on Baker, I don't really care. But if we decide that we want to continue on with Baker as our QB, then we need to get rid of OBJ. Simple as that.

If we want to be honest with ourselves, OBJ is a goner. Barring some miraculous resurgence, his position just isn't premier in Stefanski's systems. He was on pace for his lowest number of targets before his injury last year, and he's already mirroring that this year.

The question is - will we be able to extract more value during the offseason or during the trade deadline?

I dont think you can keep Beckham no matter what.

We have money in the RB position, OL and Landry. Baker is on a rookie contract, we cant draft a qb and wait a few years again and waste this roster. If we trade for one, they will be expensive and we cant have a 14 mil and 16 mil receiver on top of the other money on RB and OL.

We also spent draft capital,. 5th round and 3rd round on receiver.

Its pretty obvious we need to move on from Beckham. Its not his fault, he is a great teammate and talent, but not a place to spend money in Stefanski's scheme. People want to put blame, there is no blame here, just facts. If he didnt get hurt and his money became guaranteed he would probably be gone already.

I am a fan, will always root for OBJ as he has been a great teammate and seems like a good guy, just not a fit for what he is worth and what he does.

We cant afford OBJ if we get Rodgers (not trade, free agency) or Wilson.

Reality is they will cost 40 mill a year each and the money has to come from somewhere.

I dont think at 16 mill OBJ has any value, if i was a betting man I bet he gets cut in the offseason.

Olave and Wilson will most likely be off the board by the time the Browns are on the clock, if the season goes according to plan.

I was assuming it'd be by trade.

I agree, though I could see Olave possibly being available late in the 1st.

It kind of sucks it hasn't clicked.

There's actually many positive metrics around OBJ right now.

Like win and open rate on his routes run. Air yards, etc.

Everything intimates there are a lot of big plays out there if they can just find their connection.

In agreement the ROI isn't there but it seems more like a fit issue than a talent or performance issue.

We would get jack shit for OBJ in a trade. That is mainly why I would hold on to him for now.

I don't know that I would re-sign him at the dollar figure he is at......but I'll eat his salary in 2021 in the hope he swings 1-2 games for us at some point.

I doubt he is traded, his value has been hurt because of the last couple of years, what team wants to pay OBJ 16 mill and give up draft picks?

I was talking about trading for the QB.

But, I see your point. It'd probably have to take a bit of work to get the space for both Rodgers/Wilson and keeping OBJ.

The Browns section has gone completely off the rails the past two weeks my god.

Some people are still having a really hard time with the transition of the Browns from cellar dweller to contender.

It's on both ends of the spectrum too...the overly critical and the overly defensive.

Just hope those folks are taking some time to enjoy the ride.

I dont see the point. You want 30 million in 2 WR and 15 mill in 2 rb's tied up plus 40 million for the QB? Then we have a 10 mill TE plus i hope we keep Njoku....i rather give Njoku 8-10 mill and keep him than keep OBJ.

Its nothing against OBJ, just not a luxury we can afford. How about Clowney? He has proven more valuable than OBJ, just so many mouths to feed. We will get and have gotten some hometown discount because our players want to stay, but that only goes so far. Cant take a 10 million dollar guy and expect him to be happy playing for 4 million.

Wide Receiver has almost reached the point of RB for me. Where there's just too many of them, to want to pay any specific one $15+ million.

Additionally, it is so easy for a WR to step in and produce. Chase, Jefferson, McLaurin, Moore, Deebo, DK.......so many of these young guys can just be plugged in......and at a fraction of the cost, even as 1st or 2nd rounders.

One of Landry and Beckham has to go. One has to take a massive paycut or they both need to take a healthy one. That seems to be the options to me in general and an absolute necessity if we want to keep other key pieces or make any sort of expensive move like a different QB.
