Oden to play 4 years at OSU...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I doubt it. He will make more money with his rookie contract than he would ever make with his education. Or at least it woult take a 4.0 GPA and a sweet job. But he still would not make the rookie contract money with a job for at least 20 years.

HE IS COMING OUT AT THE END OF THIS YEAR!

If he stays for four years we were just guarenteed a championship within that time.

Can you imagine if Conley, Cook, Hunter, and Oden all stayed for 4 years?

Today his coach said he is a one and done.

I posted this commentary on the subject earlier today, which I thought was pretty solid:

Greg Oden Will Be One-And-Done

Fiction.

No one, including yours truly, would be silly enough to proclaim, "there's no way Oden goes pro after this season." That's crazy talk.

But some, including myself, are privvy to comments Oden has always made throughout the recruiting process, to close friends and also to Ohio State recruits recently, that suggest his stay in Columbus will not necessarily be terribly short-lived.

For instance, two years ago when word first leaked that Ohio State was recruiting Oden, people assumed it was a waste of time because he would go right to the NBA. That decision, of course, was taken out of Oden's hands, but the assumption was that he would have bolted if he had the opportunity. I had said back then that he was serious about college and planned to attend regardless of the NBA decision.

Interestingly enough, Matta addressed that this past Saturday after the Cincinnati game.

"People say he would have gone to the NBA had they not changed the rule, but Greg, I think, was going to go to college (anyway)," he said. "He told us that all along."

It's for that same reasoning, that I would expect Oden to stick around an extra year (or two). He's reportedly enjoying his college life and he wants to win a National Championship. He's also the type of kid that's humble enough to stay as if to boast, "I told you so."

On the flipside, Oden said Monday there's a, "good chance," he stays four years at Ohio State. That's probably not likely in the end. And also, he had said all along he would not leave until he felt he was ready. Reportedly, he went to the USA Basketball practices this summer and for the first time, walked away feeling he could compete with those players.

Further, he's recently said there was a time when staying could be stupid, depending on what he's passing up. But your stupid, my stupid and his stupid might not be one in the same.

Outside of Columbus, everyone assumes Oden will be one-and-done. I say that's fiction (but reserve the right to remind people nothing is concrete). After all, no real decision will be made until after the season.

I'm starting to feel better that he may stick around for a second year. I would certainly not be suprised if he doesn't, but it's seeming like more of a possibility. Four years, however, is taking the dream a bit far, I don't care what Oden is saying.

i got a few thoughts on this one...

first off....

even if OSU wins the tourny this year, he will stay to repeat? wanting to stay in college is an admireable thing, yes, but this kids talent lie in basketball and not the world that we live in.

there is to much money for him to be made in the NBA, although he doesnt seem like a marketable guy from the stance that lebron or melo is, as far as shoes, he will deffinitly bring people to the games.

also, does anyone know his family situation? because alot of times that has a MAJOR influence on stuff like this. If he has a mother figure and a father figure and his parents are making decent wages, there wouldnt be as much presure to make a decison based on finacial security.

I love Oden, but my boy is UGLY! He's not Robert Parrish, but damn, if he wasn't a star basketball player he'd never get laid.

He just doesnt have the same kind of Marketablity, he doesnt seem like an outgoing type person, he seems more like Tim Duncan, which isnt a bad comparrison at all. And also, big men dont get huge shoe contracts, KG is one of the few who had a successful shoes line. Tim Duncan as well, and both of there best shoes were on Nike.

He's gone....there's no way he stays. He may stay for a second year, just to play a full season and make sure he is 100% healthy. But there isnt a snowballs chance in hell that he stays for four years.

Kind of like Snoop Dogg.

He won't stay. I can see him doing a Melo, going for only this year and if they win the tourny he will goto the NBA.

Everybody I hear saying hes gone after this year is just in denial and is hoping that he does go into the draft. Those are the people that aren't Buckeye fans of course.

If his parent(s) are in a good financial situation, he can actually be a bit choosy as to whether he goes pro or not this year. Figure if he does not like who has the #1 pick, he can choose to stay in school another year. If he doesn't want to end up somewhere like Golden State for instance.

I think you have to register for the draft before you know who has the first pick.

I'm actually hearing that there is a greater possibility of Cook being a one and done than Oden. All signs are Oden wants to come back for at least one more year. Cook, meanwhile, is 50/50. Many close to him are encouraging him to return for a second year (the kid isn't even a starter, afterall), but it wouldn't be a suprise if he's gone at the end of the year.
