OSU Recruiting Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just killing it.
Hope we can finish the class off with JT Tuimoleau.

How do we keep Day?......but maybe even more importantly, what do we need to do to keep Hartline around?

Do we think Day is leaving or something? NFL is really the only threat, but admittedly a big one. I’d be shocked if it was imminent.

When Ryan Day got hired on at OSU in 2017, it was his fifth different job in six years. Two of those jobs were one year stints with NFL teams (Eagles in 2015, 49ers in 2016) where most of the staff was fired or let go due to Chip Kelly being relieved of his duties. If anyone has seen firsthand the reality of “Not For Long,” it’s Day. He has three young kids and has spoken at length about how much he loves finally finding roots in Columbus. I don’t foresee him going anywhere for a while.

As for Hartline, I’m sure they’ll get him to the point where he’s the highest paid position coach in America and eventually throw on some sort of coordinator designation, be it a passing game coordinator or co-OC. I’m guessing he’d only leave for a head coaching job (and I’m talking a great G5 or burgeoning P5 school).

If Hartline ever wants a head job, we will lose him and nothing we can do about it. But I’ll take a program constantly growing future HCs.

this isn’t directed at just you, but I hate this line of thinking. We have a great HC and some world class assistants. It’s an absolute pleasure that they are so good that someone might offer them bigger and better things, and if they leave, that’s just part of OSU being a monster program.

Being the man or an incredible assistant coach at THE Ohio State University is pretty fucking appealing. You turn kids into warriors and compete at the highest level. You get paid millions and live in a great Midwest city. It feels like Meyer was coaching yesterday and then this fucking Day guy comes in and I am all “whoever this guy stopgap guy is, this sucks”.... and Day so far is a monster.

He won’t leave until he beats Saban head to head,at a minimum. Book it.

I think Day has a chance to be one of the great and iconic coaching legends at Ohio State. Not a small feat nor something that would be easy to walk away from. His name would forever be associated with Ohio State football. That means a lot. He has national titles to win before I see him leaving for the NFL.

Hartline is also someone that eventually needs a HC job, and pretty soon. Groom him somewhere, let him turn around a big name program, and if and when Day decides to coach no longer, he's a potential replacement.

I used to think this about Tom Herman when he left for Houston, that maybe he eventually finds his way back to OSU after Meyer. But that ship has sailed thankfully.

Who knows, maybe Hartline or Fickell is our guy 10-12 years from now.

Brian Hartline could be our Brent Venables on offense. A guy who is happy where he's at. I know there has been talk that he has no interest in leaving OSU, will see how that evolves over the next few years as he smoves to pass game coordinator to full on OC at some point.

Any chance Quinn Ewers reconsiders Texas with Herman gone and Sark coming in?

His comments today:

"I've heard the news," he said. "I'm rocking with my guys at Ohio State. Obviously, success comes into account and they've had a lot of success. I want to be a part of something like that."

Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is rumored to be Texas' next coach.

"I've visited with Sark a few times just to chop it up," Ewers said. "He's a cool guy."
