The OL was just not as good as Florida's DL, not by a long shot. That was the key matchup, the one that had by far the biggest impact on the game. The Gator front four was just mean.Deadlock said:Ahhh Troy played horrible. We needed Ted Gin Jr really bad during this game. Had no explosive player on offence besides Smith and he was getting rushed like hell and just had a bad game.
On the other side of the ball, OSU's defense gave up 3 quick scores on Florida's first three possesions, and were playing back on their heels the first half. I'm not sure if that was 51 days off, UF having a great offensive game plan and the OSU coaches were slow to adjust, or what; however, they tightened it up in the second half. Giving up 7 points a half will win you just about all your ball games. Hell, even in this game where OSU's offense was completed dominated, had the defense given up just 7 per half it would have went to over time. What I'm getting at is at least the defense showed up for half the game. The offense, on the other hand, got completely owned all game. I only remember one passing play the whole game where Smith had protection, and even that play went UF's way as they had great coverage and Smith eventually had to just throw it away.
My hats off to Florida, and especially their defense. They were clearly the better team.
It sucks to end your season on an ugly loss, but 12 wins, the fourth top 5 season in 5 years, a Heisman trophy, and a Big Ten title still makes for a great year. Buckeye fans should be proud of this team.
