Restricted free agent Patrick McCaw is signing a two year, $6 million offer sheet with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Last week, Yahoo reported that the Warriors are still prepared to match any offer McCaw receives. However, per ESPN's Bobby Marks, matching the McCaw offer sheet from Cleveland would see Golden State's tax bill increase from $50.3 million to $61.6 million. Woj tweeted that McCaw has clearly indicated that he no longer wants to play for Warriors. We should have an update on this situation shortly.

Why though? Does nothing to the Warriors and isn't an upgrade.

This is a move in the best interest of a young player and the league in general. Warriors front office were playing hard ball with a RFA while in truth their bench has been a big issue for them all year. In an under-reported pattern that Cavs fans have noticed, the Warriors have become all too comfortable signing rip-off deals to front runners. McCaw didn't want to sign a rip-off deal, he has never gotten that first comfort contract. Cavs are taking a shot to maybe add an intriguing young guard for almost no cost. Warriors have to act like the rest of the NBA for a moment. Win-win.

Makes sense after you broke it down for me. Is he a tween guard or just a SG? Any upgrade to the team or just trying to catch lightning in a bottle?

I dont think the talent is there tbh. But for that price & size, ill take it.

Lord knows Burks & Hood are on the way out in the next 60 days.

Another dude that can’t shoot to pair with the rest of our team that can’t shoot.

There was never even a chance to create a safari ...

He was more promising as a rookie than last year. His defense improved as a second year player, but poor shooting cost him a spot in the rotation to Quin Cook. He is still a 23 year old combo guard who can defend at a high level already.

Wasnt he playing well before he got hurt? Is there any upside here? I thought he could shoot a little

Lol.........

At least if we sign players with 'upside' I really rather we at least try to sign them toa 3 year deal. Basketball 101.

Edit: looks like we are doing him and his agent a favor to get him out of RFA?

I was calling for this before the season started. It's a no lose scenario for us. The Warriors match their tax bill goes up, which is money in Dan's pocket and the warriors need to make more hard choices going forward. If they don't match, he is a young players that has been developed fairly well that can compete for a SG/SF spot going forward for us.

I actually hope they don't match. He can take Hood, Clarkson, or Burks spot when we move them at the deadline.
