CLEVELAND (AP) - Reliever Paul Shuey retired on Wednesday, ending his comeback with Cleveland Indians.

The 34-year-old Shuey, who missed last season for Los Angeles because of injuries, decided to call it quits after making an appearance for Double-A Akron on Monday. Shuey signed a minor league contract with the Indians in January.

Shuey pitched for Cleveland from 1994-2002, and was one of the top right-handed setup men in the AL. The No. 2 overall pick in the 1992 draft, Shuey went 45-27 in 451 career outings.

The Indians traded him in July 2002 to the Dodgers for three pitchers.
