Simmons needs a five-out scheme to be able to make plays. It's all about his dribbling, post-ups and kick outs.

We can't run anything like that as long as dudes like Allen, Mobley and Okoro are playing heavy minutes.

Exactly Simmons most success was when Embiid was out and they stumbled into alot of 3pt shooting depth from guys who joined them off of the buyout market.

The only way I'm fully on board with Simmons is if he takes over the role Rubio played. The *idea* of Ben Simmons is great for this team. On 2K or a fantasy league, I'm all good with the idea, but there's too much going well and seemingly meshing for the future to risk it for Simmons. Team chemistry and culture, financially, etc. The risk is too high for me; especially considering the likely cost to get him.

Simmons/Embiid on the floor together was the 2nd best offensive two person combination on the 76ers last season... The offensive rating is 3 points higher than any other combination that Simmons is involved in.

I would support a Simmons trade. We need playmaking and he is a tremendous defender. It's all about the asking price. Not trading Mobley or Garland obviously. It would probably need a third team to make it work.

The Cavs had 27 assists last night even without Garland. Overall, we're 7th in the league in assists per game. A lack of playmaking is not the problem.

The overwhelming need for the Cavs roster is improved outside shooting. We already have playmaking, rim-runners in both Allen and Mobley, and both of those guys also are good passers. It's outside shooting we need, and perhaps secondarily a guy capable of slashing and beating guys off the dribble in the halfcourt.

Simmons gives us things we already have, and gives us worse outside shooting in the starting lineup.

Here's the part that pisses me off:

Paul told the Sixers that Simmons' mental health hurdles continue to preclude him from a return to play with the team

To which I say: BULL. FUCKING. SHIT.

One of the reasons why mental illness continues to carry some stigma today (fortunately not as much as years ago) is this belief, being propagated here by Paul, that mental illness can be turned on or off. If Simmons is truly too mentally ill to play with the Sixers, then he is too mentally ill to play with any team. He needs to work on his mental issues, far away from basketball, and return once he has a better handle on them.

Think of how stupid it would be to say that Simmons had, say, a knee injury that would preclude him from playing with Philly, but that his knee would suddenly be fine and allow him to play with another team if he were traded there. That's effectively what Paul (and Simmons) are saying here -- that his mental health precludes him from playing for one team, but not 29 others.

And that just pisses me off. He's making a mockery of legitimate illnesses and minimizing the people who suffer from them. Fuck this guy in the ear.

Here's my read:

Simmons finds the thought of playing for the Sixers to be very upsetting (because he's a pussy), and is worried about his loss of income from not playing so the status quo also upsets him. Paul is calling Simmons being so upset his "mental health", which he implies is the same as "mental illness", and therefore claims that Simmons is too "ill" to play for the Sixers.

The problem is that life's normal ups and downs, and unhappiness with your current life situation, is being too easily labelled as "mental illness" for which an accomodation (in this case a trade) is required.

You're right. I think the mental health thing was an excuse because he thought it would give him leverage and force the Sixers into handling his situation differently. Now he's backed into a corner.

He's never going to suit up for the Sixers again, IMO, as the situation has devolved too much and he's dug in too far to change course (similar to the Kyrie vax situation).

Now... does the dude have some level of mental issues? Insecurity, depression, selfishness, immaturity, anger issues... something? Wouldn't surprise me, a ton of people do. I would assume (no evidence, no proof, don't crucify me) a lot of people in the NBA deal with those same issues and are still able to attempt to be of value to their teams.

He's just decided to take his ball and go home. And the Sixers want other people to pay a King's ransom to deal with his ass. No thanks.

Athletics and being amongst other people are great for coping with mental illness, almost all illnesses. Literally one of the best things, possibly the best.

Being a recluse and avoiding a team would be among the worst.

I find it hard to believe this is a legitimate complaint. Talk about a red herring.

That's exactly what this is. You hit the nail on the head.

It pisses me off that he's allowed to get away with it. Again, if this were a physical reason being cited as why he can't play -- a bad knee, a broken bone, what have you -- it's not something that would miraculously go away if he were traded.

Paul is setting up a grievance to recoup the fined money from the contract that the Sixers are keeping after a trade.
I hope he sits out forever and never plays again.

Can we add Tobias to this list and title? Like please dont trade for Ben Simmons and/or Tobias Harris.

I see nothing that Tobias does will help us long term and he is owed 77 million over 2 years AFTER this year.

other than adding some help at pg I am not sure I want to do much of anything at the deadline. I do not want to see some "all-in" trade when I cant see us competing for the championship this year. Damn young team, let see how they finish and see what we need to add in the off-season.

Rubio's expiring is the one asset that I would be willing to deal to improve the pg depth.

I think Love has more value next year. Cedi is cheap and do not want to trade him. Keeping Lamar and Wade. Don't want to move Okoro either
