A big contributor - in fact, maybe the biggest contributor - to the Browns' troubles on defense last season was their inability to pressure and sack the quarterback. After finishing last in the league in sacks a year ago, the club committed itself to improving its pass rush during the offseason.

The team tackled this problem by grabbing some of the best available options at the outside linebacker position in both free agency and the draft.

After his own performance on the field, McGinest's second duty will be to play mentor for the team's young linebackers, including Kamerion Wimbley - the Browns' first-round pick out of Florida State.

The collegiate defensive end is making the transition to outside linebacker just as McGinest did more than a decade ago. Early reviews of Wimbley by Browns head coach Romeo Crennel have been positive.
