Possible new rule change - No extra points

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Technically it's really not the same amount of actual football being played if you take out part of the game.

Change is not always progress.

An extra point is a foregone conclusion. It isn't "actual" football.

Except for the fact it isn't. Anything could happen. Just because it always doesn't, that doesn't mean it couldn't. Makes it even more spectacular when it finally does.

I'm not opposed to making the extra try harder with a longer FG but to eliminate it, that's just moronic.

The last consequential missed XP was in 2003. The saints hits this miracle lateral play to "tie" but the kicker missed the XP

So because it doesn't happen that often means do away with it? Get rid of all the stuff that doesn't happen often.

There's a difference between "doesn't happen often" and "less than 1% of the time"

The rules have been changed so much due to player safety, like you can't do the push play anymore or you can't overload one side or you can't can the long snapper. Because of all of these changes, which are all justifiable changes, you can basically assume that greater than 99.5% of XP will go in from here out.
From the 1990 to 2011 seasons, 22 seasons in total, there were 23,684 extra point attempts during the regular season. Of these, a total of 23,325 were successfully made for a league wide extra point efficiency rating of 98.48%.
In total, only 359 times has a Kicker missed the point after touchdowns. Breaking this number down further, we found that 103 were blocked while kickers missed 256 straight out.

They have screwed too much with the game IMO. I just hate to see more changes just for the sake of change.

Meh. Anything that speeds up the game a bit is fine by me.

You'd be speeding up the game more by reducing the play clock or getting rid of challenges. Also if a team is just going to take a knee to end the half, they should just be able to tell the ref and walk off the field.

Reducing the play clock would have little effect on the actual game. It is only 25 from the spot of the ball if it goes out of bounds... which isn't much time at all. Also, the game clock starts when the ball is spotted (even when it goes out of bounds on the previously play) outside of the last five minutes of a half.

Changes to the clock would result in very minimal changes in terms of game time, and would dilute the quality of the product on the field. Reduction in game time is really only effected by time that is not clocked. (i.e. official stoppages resulting in substantial breaks in the running of the game clock). This was one of the few places to significantly effect that time.
