Wan't Seibert, or whatever, a hot shit kicker in college?

Isn't kicker and punter the one position in football that isn't a big leap from NCAA Div I to NFL?

Seibert kicked a lot of extra points in college. He played both kicker and punter, and the Browns were hopeful specializing would help him with field goal accuracy. As an added detail, college extra points are 13 yards closer than NFL extra points. He is adjusting quite a bit from what he did with Oklahoma.

Yep. My guess is it's seiberts job going forward short of his leg falling off.

He was way too good of a college kicker to forget how. Yes I know browns kicker last year was a great college kicker as well

Well, he's on the Cardinals now (along with Andy Lee) as their kicker and looks pretty good (hasn't missed any kicks this preseason). We probably gave up on him too quick, should have put him on IR last year instead of cutting him.

I honestly think Jamie Gillan has a chance to win the punting job. I wouldn't have thought that was an option a month ago.

Obviously he has the booming leg, but Colquit is one of the best in the NFL especially at putting it inside the 20. But given the opportunity to put one inside the 20, Gillan did just that on a short high kick that ended up being around the 10. Sure he had the 74 yard one, but he answered the big question can he back them up when the punt doesn't need to be 50 yards plus.

I just wish we didn't have 2 really good punters and 2 shitty kickers in camp, but such is life, lol.

He does need to hold though - or at least someone else needs to take over holding duties from Colquitt. Would be classic if we kept Gillan, and one of the PKs figured it out, only to have Gillan "Romo" the holds.

He was holding the kicks in the preseason game and looked fine to me, but what do I know.

Gillan did the kicking duty in college, so he could be an actual viable backup FG if one of our FG kickers go down. It doesn't happen often, but it does add value. Plus Gillan would come over 2 mill cheaper as Colquit makes 2.7 and i cant imagine we couldn't get Gillan for rookie min.
