Larry Brown would not even be living in Cleveland. He will be returning to Philidelphia to live. Day to day medling should not be as big an issue.

Larry Brown denies any deal

Other reports say Pistons coach has already agreed to join Cavs

AUBURN HILLS, MICH. - The Cavaliers' courtship of Larry Brown started months ago, a process that the ownership group is banking will become a marriage in the near future.

There were several reports late Monday, the most prominent on ESPN, that Brown had agreed to become the Cavaliers' next president of operations.

Brown vehemently denied that he'd reached any deal with the Cavaliers before the Detroit Pistons took on the Miami Heat in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals, angrily answering questions posed by the media while keeping up with what he has said for the past week.

``I'm coaching here. I have never changed in what I said. Why should I think about alternatives? I don't even want to think about alternatives,'' said Brown, even as intense scrutiny surrounded his reported decision. ``I have no other agenda at all.''

"(Larry) Brown has not talked to the players about the Cleveland situation, and the players say they neither expect him to nor need him to. "It's not like he's out there playing for us," Ben Wallace said. "Bottom line is, nobody is going to take the ball out of the basket for you. You can say what you want, but we are the ones that have to get it done. If he needs to talk, he will. If not, it is what it is."

Maybe we ought to hire Ben Wallace as GM. If the quote cited by Infante isn't the straightest talk about the NBA, I don't know what is.

Shouldn't it be a bad sign that so much power in the organization is being turned over to a guy who won't even be living in Cleveland? Larry Brown has been given control and the most power in the front office and he won't even be close to the team on a daily basis. The GM or team president has to be close to the situation in order to best do his job.

There's no way I'd turn over so much control of my franchise to someone who has never been able to commit to a team and is as untrustworthy as Larry Brown.
Does anyone really think LB is going to commit to the Cavs for a long period?

One more thing to consider, and it's always a possibility considering LB's history, is what if L. Brown changes his mind and decides not to come to Cleveland? Gilbert and the Cavs are screwed. By going against what he said he was going to do and hiring a head coach first, Gilbert would than be forced to find another GM and force a coach on him that he played no role in selecting.

I just think this whole process has been handled poorly and right now doesn't make me too confident. I was optimistic about this offseason but that's fading as time has passed.

Brown living in Philidelphia may be the great leveller. He is accused of being the typle that would meddle with the players over the GM's and coaches head. Having this distance thing may in turn reduce this effect. We will have a GM there for day to day (Newton) dealings. To me Larry Brown is going to be a very highly paid advisor.

Another thing with Brown. People have repeatedly stated that he cannot stay in one job long and gets itchy feat and moves on. Well I believe, despite all the crucification Larry is getting right now, he has rather straight. He realises and so does the Pistons, that he cannot coach next season due to health reasons. Larry should not be coaching now, but is hanging tough for his team. Dumars in respect for Brown has allowed permission for him to talk with Cleveland, knowing that he cannot play a future role with Detroit. Dumars knows Brown can still be a part of the NBA in another role, but that role isn't available in Detroit. This looks to me why Saunders has waivered away from Cleveland, Portland and Orlando. He knows Brown cannot coach again, and there would be know better scenario for him then in Detroit. This was all supposed to stay under the carpet until the end of the season, but unfortunately for all, this hasn't been the case. Brown seems certain for Cleveland, but lets not mistaken this for Brown jumping ship again. His health concerns means he can not meet his contract. I believe all parties from Brown, Dumars, Gilbert and Saunders should have little mud on them. They have tried to help each other. Whether Brown is the right help here is another question.

This whole situation sucks. I have a feeling that if we get Brown, halfway into the season he'll become fumed, after making questionable moves all season, and step down to take the coaching job himself. This is bound to happen and would set this franchise back a few notches.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Larry Brown changes his mind and decides not to take the Cavs job. There has been so much bad publicity surrounding this possible move. LB has also never been one for stability and commitment.
I really have serious doubts about L. Brown. I'm hoping he does turn down the Cavs.

Gilbert did state with the Mike Brown hire how he's willing to take chances on younger candidates with great potential and building things for the long term. I think he should continue that philosophy with the front office too. I'd prefer moves like Danny Ferry as GM and Scott Perry of the Pistons as player personnel director. Gilbert now gets two more younger executives on the rise and who are respected who could form a solid trio along with Mike Brown.
Why not continue down the path he's taken with the coaching hire rather than bringing in Larry Brown who really only wants to coach and will never give a long commitment to the Cavs?
