Can the Cavs get free agents to sign BACK LOADED deals for the mid level in the first year and then they double immediately in the second year in order to fit under the cap? Is this legal? Im thinking it isnt because Ive never seen it used as a tactic, but I thought Id ask.

Not legal for any type of contract, not just the MLE. There is a max yearly raise for singing someone of any contract for any length.

If a player re-signs with his own team, he can receive a maximum raise in his salary of 10.5% per year, as calculated over the base salary.

If a player signs with a new team, he can receive a maximum raise in his salary of 8% per year, as calculated over the base salary.
