R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Question. Why did Kobe get a pass on dating Vanessa when she was 17 and he was 21? Age of consent in Cali is 18, they got engaged when she was still in high school and 17, married when she was 18. In fact, Kobe's parents didn't go to the wedding, and that was part of the reason.

Not trying to trash the man, later in life he turned into a very, very good person and very pro women, but the beginning for him was rough.

I think your last paragraph sums up the complexity of Kobe. I honestly think he was a pretty shitty guy when he was younger. And a big part of that is that I do think he raped that girl. I also think in his later years he started to become a better person. And that's a good thing. I think we can acknowledge all of the good he did do while also acknowledging that there's a girl out there somewhere today that may still be struggling with being raped.

My real question is mayo or Miracle Whip, because that answer alone is more relevant to this discussion, and also a good basis to judge your judeo-christian women on.
Couldn't tell you if I know the difference in taste. With that being said, Miracle Whip. Real mayo's color looks like Miracle Whip that's been sitting out for 3 days.

Wasn’t Kobe eligible for the Hall of Fame this year anyway?

Yea this is his class. i misread an article that was stating they're waiving certain rules to honor him posthumously, not putting him in early.

His denying they has sex doesn't mean its rape. He could not want it getting out there to media and his wife that he fucking on the side.

There is also a fine line between rough sex, which kobe obviously is into, and the case his defense made, and rape but it exists

I'm sure his lying could be not wanting his wife to find out. But to me if you're interviewing witnesses and one of them lies right off the bat, it lowers the credibility of that witness.

A good way to end religious discussions is to call them fairy tells and to bring it back up instead of moving on.

Yep.. it's my fault she answered me.. I should have known she deserved to get the final word so as not to offend.

It's almost like this sort of thing doesn't belong on this forum and all comments resulting from the original post on it should be removed. Including mine.

I'm done answering anyone about this.

First and foremost, there's not a need to replace the logo. It's fine as is and it's well-known and well-recognized. But if you do change it, you can't model it after a guy who was credibly accused of rape. Hell, even if you don't consider that huge part of his legacy, what is the grounds for him to be the new logo over Jordan, who was better than Kobe and did more for the game? Hell, LeBron is/was better and has done more for the game IMO. I'm sorry he died, I get that people are hurting with it, but we can't do unreasonable things as a response to it. Name the ASG MVP after him, let the Lakers do what they're going to do, and let people remember him how they choose to.
The logo has to be someone without any significant negatives. You can't make Kobe the NBA logo for the same reason you can't make Jim Brown the NFL's logo. Both guys did something that stained their off the court legacy.

Another reason not to make the logo a single person because you never know what will skeletons will appear even after they're retired/gone.

Some of the posts that strayed too far away from the subject of Kobe Bryant and into politics and religion have been removed.

Staff respects everyone's differences of faith. We aren't picking one.

We are trying to be as consistent as we can in funnelling political and religious discussions to the proper sub-forum because of the overwhelming desire of the majority of the board to keep those discussions separate from talking about sports.

If you are interested in discussing what constitutes "rape" further, the political sub-forum is the right place for that discussion.

IMO, as I said before I didn't think very highly of Kobe Bryant until around the time of his injury and his shift into responsible fatherhood. The outpouring of grief can have various shades of meaning and gravity to people for many different reasons, that is personal. For me personally he was a guy who more or less matured into adulthood and separated himself from what a self-centered prick he used to be. He seemed to be a man who had more to give society than he gave it before as a star athlete, and that is why so many are mourning him.

I'm mourning all the poor girls who just wanted to make a tip off.

Not really. She was physically injured and told multiple people about it right away. She was bleeding, had choke marks on her neck, went to the hospital, told a friend right away and her family the next morning. Not a “had fun but changed my mind” situation.

Really rough sex can fuck shit up. I read back through it recently and there was a reasonable case against rape.

I’m not 100% sure what happened. If I were to guess, things went farther than she wanted and got rougher than she wished but she became afraid to say anything and understandably so.

Not really something I’d argue particularly hard for or against because I feel bad for her either way.

I'm not going to create any noise about this because I respect the hell out of you and RCF, but I don't think discussion of the 2003 incident is political in nature. One of the things I've always loved about RCF is that I can post here and have some really honest discussions that you can't havr other places. There's zero chance I'm posting on Twitter or Facebook that I'm uncomfortable with all of praise thrown at his legacy without acknowledgement of every part of it. As long as everyone is being respectful, I don't see the harm. Just my two cents.
