R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rape is a form of sexual assault. Consent is also retractable; a person can change their mind at any time, and their partner is responsible for respecting their decision to stop.

The case wasn't dropped because there wasn't enough evidence. It was dropped because Kobe's team made her life a living hell. His defense lawyer accused her of being schizophrenic and suicidal while she received death threats and hate mail after her identity was leaked multiple times. This led to the girl not being willing to testify, so charges were dropped.

It didn't help she showed up the next day with semen and pubic hairs from a white guy in her panties. It didn't help that he co-workers testified she was distraught after. It didn't help the had cameras of her going in willingly.

I am not saying he didn't assault her, I believe he did, I am saying the prosecution had a very weak case and it was dropped for allot of reasons.

One co-worker said she didn't seem bothered (pretty subjective IMO). But there was also this:

"The woman accusing Kobe Bryant of rape tearfully told a bellhop minutes after the alleged attack that that she had just been “forced to have sex” with the NBA superstar, according to a new report. Friends and co-workers of the accuser told Fox News correspondent Rita Cosby that the 19-year- old hotel worker’s clothing was torn when she spoke with the bellhop."

Her going in willfully doesn't do much to prove he didn't do it. Neither does her having sex with another guy. The case was dropped because she was 19 and being attacked by Kobe's legal team and his fans and feared for her life. The prosecution was disappointed because they felt they'd get a conviction.

I see some want Kobe’s numbers to be retired. Okay. They also want #2 retired.
C’mon now.

The crazy Kobe fans are everywhere. I worked in Cleveland for a short time. I told a group of guys that I thought he was over rated and more like top 25 player and not the goat. I said a guy that shoots career 32% from 3 and owns a career 48% eFG% can't be the goat. Next thing I know they all got violent because my opinion wasn't up to par with theirs. I don't dispute that he was great 2 way player but not on the level many fans have him. I've learned to keep my opinion about Kobe to myself. I was about ready to throw his off court issues out there before I realized the fists about ready to fly.

Craziest fan base for one player that I've come across. This tragic accident has now pushed a lot of them to the extremes, and nobody checks them on it because then you're labeled as disrespectful to Kobe and his family. Thankfully it seems like everyone but Mark Cuban didn't give in to the overreaction.

I think it's pretty clear that you have a strong anti-Kobe bias. You have an excuse for all the holes on Katelyn Faber's side, but the holes on Kobe's side are clear proof that he was guilty.

I have a headache from all the spinning going on in this thread.

I'm not sure if this is fair to say (probably not) but I found a lot more humanity in late career/post career Kobe then I have ever had with Michael Jordan in the damn near 20 years he's been retired. This may be that I am only a few years younger than Kobe and essentially watched his journey from 17 year old to the end. This may be selling Jordan completely short since all I know of him post career is that his second career has been largely a dumpster fire. Kobe just seemed like a humbled and changed man who realized it was all bigger than himself.

I'm very strongly against men who sexually assault women, yes. You are correct that there are open questions on each side, but her physical examination was not consistent with consensual sex. That, combined with Kobe lying to police in the beginning lead me to believe he was guilty. There isn't much evidence that back Kobe's side.

But let's say he's not guity - at best he still cheated on his wife 5 months after their first child was born.

It's fine if people like him and it's sad that he died, but it doesn't erase his awful actions in 2003 for me.
