R.I.P Kobe Bryant

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm very strongly against men who sexually assault women, yes. You are correct that there are open questions on each side, but her physical examination was not consistent with consensual sex. That, combined with Kobe lying to police in the beginning lead me to believe he was guilty. There isn't much evidence that back Kobe's side.

But let's say he's not guity - at best he still cheated on his wife 5 months after their first child was born.

It's fine if people like him and it's sad that he died, but it doesn't erase his awful actions in 2003 for me.
How does evidence of rape look vs evidence of rough sex?

I'm not sure if this is fair to say (probably not) but I found a lot more humanity in late career/post career Kobe then I have ever had with Michael Jordan in the damn near 20 years he's been retired. This may be that I am only a few years younger than Kobe and essentially watched his journey from 17 year old to the end. This may be selling Jordan completely short since all I know of him post career is that his second career has been largely a dumpster fire. Kobe just seemed like a humbled and changed man who realized it was all bigger than himself.

That is fair, Jordan is a huge asshole, just a very, very, very talented one. Young Kobe was self absorbed too, older Kobe was amazing.

I know most hate Lebron, but Lebron is actually one of the most selfless superstars of any sport of all time. If he never did the decision, his moving around would have been more accepted and he would get more credit for his charity work and quite frankly already amazing non basketball career that will go next level when he retires in 5 years.

This is how I feel. As the type of person who has had to shut everything down, put myself into a box, and try to will things into fruition, I really started to appreciate Kobe Bryant the retiree. The way he talked about approaching writing (that's also what I do for a living) and such - I really appreciated his drive and the attention to detail. Even his show (it's called Details right?) - it was so Kobe...him breaking down the plays. I bet he gathered the clips and did a lot of the groundwork himself, the perfectionist that he is. I think those same things are what annoyed me when he was playing a team sport. But in retirement he found a bunch new creative endeavors that are much more individualistic in nature than team sports and I appreciated watching that part of him.

Craziest fan base for one player that I've come across. This tragic accident has now pushed a lot of them to the extremes, and nobody checks them on it because then you're labeled as disrespectful to Kobe and his family. Thankfully it seems like everyone but Mark Cuban didn't give in to the overreaction.

This bothers me. I am starting to feel like Larry David right now when people call him the GOAT and are throwing him into the Lebron conversation. I wanna say "OK OK OK he died but let's not go crazy. Come on he wasn't that good." But then I feel like the Curb Your Enthusiasm song will come on as a fist approaches my face.

Agreed!

Well that tribute was pretty damn emotional.....

We're all Laker fans tonight.

Much respect to LeBron for addressing the crowd (and going off script).
Don’t be a lemming! That was the script! When has LeBron ever read directly from a sheet of paper when addressing a crowd in the middle of an arena? You really thought PR told him to read an entire speech from paper. I’m pretty sure he took it out there to make sure he didn’t miss names.

Ill give him a pass for last night, but I’d say in his (3) biggest regular season games (last night, first game back for CLE, first game with Heat) he has played some real duds.

AD and Kuzma were amazing for Lakers last night. Obviously Lillard was exceptional. Just find it interesting in emotionally charged games where the home crowd is brimming with excitement, he (LeBron) has been really flat. Maybe I’m being harsh under the circumstances, but I still kind of shake my head at the opening night performance against Knicks in Cleveland. One of worst games I’ve ever seen him play.

Why not retire 8 with her name and 24 with his or vice versa??
They could just put her team's jersey in the rafters instead of retiring a number. I get people wanna honor her and her dad's legacy, but going overboard for Kobe and Gigi isn't bringing them back.

People could start watching WNBA games and supporting more women's athletics. Find ways to incorporate Mamba mentality into their lives. There's more meaningful and productive ways to remember people than retiring numbers or changing logos.

Thats the simple and easiest thing to do. But they won’t have any of that.

Bringing that Mamba mentality to my drinking tonight. Fuck my liver.

Even his debut with the Lakers and the game against Clippers he was so bad in. Thought he was subpar against Blazers too. You may be on to something.

Watching WNBA? The rest of NBA is still OK? Right?
They can do whatever else, so the memory stays strong, watching WNBA is something you don’t do when you loose someone- torture yourself.
