WE REMEMBER
IN SEPTEMBER
WHEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED
I did not know that - thanks for the tip! The Riders of Rohan come to Vienna, eh?

There's also a Netfilx series called the Ottomans focusing on the Siege of Constantinople.

I refuse to see the latter.

I would rather not see the perhaps the greatest act of cultural vandalism ever, with the wholesale destruction of 2000 years worth of accumulated history, and one of the great tragedies of the past millennium, depicted on screen.

Still too soon.

Winged Hussars though are wicked cool. What drew me to the title was the graphic featuring a winged hussar hacking his way through Johnny Turk.

I guess it'll always be too soon for that one. It looks like it is being told primarily from the Ottoman perspective, which is why I haven't watched it either.

From the Ottoman perspective?

Must be for a Turkish audience.

Otherwise, I can't imagine why anyone would find sympathetic the point of view of people who ended a 2300 year old civilization (older if you count Greece), destroyed the great Imperial Library of Constantinople, thus burning the knowledge of the ages, raped (including small children) and enslaved tens of thousands, and desecrated and/or destroyed two of the holiest churches in all of Christendom filled with the accumulated artifacts of 1400 years of faith including the remains of all the apostles and every Roman Emperor from Constantine the Great to Alexius Komemnos.

A conquest that ultimately culminated in the second worst genocide of the 20th Century and the worst on-going case of ethnic cleansing (Greeks and other Christians from Asia Minor) in the world.

I must say it isn't for me. :chuckle:

Alright Stannis, this is something I’d like to read more of. Add that to my reading course.

Just Jojo Rabbit on a plane. Very enjoyable.
I just finished watching it. What a fantastic movie. Was surprised how funny it was given the subject matter, and it still managed to work in a couple of emotional moments despite the ridiculousness.

Sam Rockwell predictably stole every scene he was in as per usual. Rebel Wilson and Alfie Allen were great too.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 8.5/10

I didn’t think it was Tarantino’s best work, but I really enjoyed it. The woman hated it

Was a little disappointed by The Lighthouse.

The acting was on point, as expected. The ongoing feeling of dread was there. Nailed that.

The story felt very disconnected and unresolved at the end. My day started off shitty because of it. I’m mad at it.

Saw Birds of Prey... if you delete the Roman chase/final scene, it’s actually an entertaining movie.

6/10
