I haven't watched the new Justice League yet, but just read a tiny bit. It's a complete different movie with most of the original release removed, and not just that movie with some added scenes. I don't recall anything like happening before.

Some films are saved like that.

One that comes to mind is the Directors Cut of Kingdom of Heaven.

Absolutely brilliant historical epic. The original is very underwhelming.

Yep, misses a lot in the original cut. The political machinations between Guy and Sybilla concerning the regency of her young son are completely cut out. In fact I think the son is not even in the original cut.

The studio heads thought the DC too long, but once again they miss the point of these epic films: The are meant to be long and lush.

Though, ultimately, what keeps it from being a modern classic is Orlando Bloom's inability to act.

I thought it was ok in the sense that his character should have been skeptical and doubting. I absolutely loved Edward Norton, he deserves an Oscar for his performance with his face covered like that.

Yes he did.

I thought the cast was very strong.

I enjoyed it a lot more than the original. Someone mentioned the fleshing out of characters. Flash wasn't a bystander in this movie. Cyborgs arc was probably an additional 30 minutes. Steppenwolfe was made into a threat. The movie was a hard R and earned it with the violence and chaos Steppenwolfe caused. He also wasn't a grey blob of metal anymore. His suit had a little life to it and a purple sheen which looked incredible.

Didn't feel like 4 hrs which is a good thing cause 4 hours is a ridiculous ask. But on HBO Max you can pace yourself if you choose. Snyder cut it into 7 parts. 6 main and an epilogue. I really like the WW theme so he new theme they use during her show motion scenes and anything Amazon related kinda wore on me after a bit.

Just finished the second half of Justice League.

It was ok. It was good when compared to the original, but to me it was just ok. Just having the Flash in its current form knocks it down a notch. To me, he is Jar Jar level cringe for me whenever he is on the screen. I hope I never see him running in slow motion like a marionette ever again.

I give it a generous 5.5/10.

I enjoyed Justice League, I assume there isn't going to be a sequel even though it set up one. I also realized I never watched the original Justice League.

I really liked the Snyder cut. Much better story and some great action that built decent tension up. DCEU is dead though

Their problem is that they never seem to have a cohesive brain at the top like Marvel has with Feige. I'm sure that it sometimes stifles the potential individual creativity of the Marvel films, but it means that there's a consistency in filmmaking, storytelling, and tone from film to film that actually makes all them feel like they're a piece of something bigger rather than a bunch of stand-alone films that have to be clumsily tied together in the big team-up movies.

Finally watched The Three Caballeros on Disney+. This was a film I often saw referenced by the Disney company, especially in the theme park, but almost never available.

I then found out it was from 1944 and it's Walt Disney's ode to Central and South America. I was like, oh shit, this is going to be racist as hell. I gotta watch it!

I have to say, against all odds The Three Caballeros manages to be pretty respectful towards other cultures and ahead of it's time... aside from learning Donald Duck wanted to fuck your human abuela.

Solid 8/10 and great background movie while you do other stuff with your kids.

Eva Green is generally great.

She's great in the Sin City sequel.

Well, not great. No one was great in that movie. But she spends the entire movie either naked or wearing see through clothes.

Pretty sure you can see her nipple on the damn poster. :chuckle:

So I watched the first 4 parts of Snyder's Justice League last night before I fell asleep, and the movie so far is just not good. I hadn't seen the original release, so I don't have that frame of reference, but this version of the film just feels like a pure Snyder indulgence (and not in a good way).

The egregiously excessive use of slow mo for every fucking action scene and a whole host of other scenes that have no logical or theatrical reason for occurring in slow mo is so incredibly off-putting. No wonder the movie clocks in at over 4 hours. When you use slow mo shots in literally every other scene it loses all impact and quickly becomes an annoyance. Aquaman leaving the ocean? Slow mo. Aquaman entering ocean? Slow mo. Lois Lane walking down street? Slow mo. Wonder Woman standing in hallway with wind blowing? Slow mo. Batman sitting on a building? Slow mo. Enough. Stop it. Get some help.

I also have to say that the soundtrack for this movie is atrocious. Every time a song starts playing all I could think was either "wow this song is really, really bad" or "wow, this song does not fit this scene at all." The Wonder Woman trademark wailing noise is particularly grating. It almost feels like they're trying to satirize that classic DC tone of "I'm 14 and this is deep, life is pain". But they aren't. It's just bad.

And a special mention for the Flash in this movie and the dude who plays him. He's awful and the character is awful. Every time he's featured in a scene alone I'm anxiously counting the seconds until it's over. The Cyborg dude isn't much better as I'm not sure 'mean face sulking under hoodie' as a performance lends much weight to his tragic backstory. But apparently he didn't even have a backstory before Snyder's cut, so +1 I guess? Gal Gadot is doing the bare minimum of acting. And just in general, the acting and script just leave a lot to be desired across the board.

It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, and I'm not surprised a lot of DC fans really enjoyed this version. But I am surprised that anyone would call this monstrosity a good film in its own right. But hey, maybe the third act is a completely different movie and my mind will be blown at the end.
