Took the wife to see TGM. A bit tough at times to suspend disbelief (opening sequence, 60 year old able to physically do that) but a very good movie. Definitely worth the time & money. Much respect to TC who put actors in the 18s for real. A movie that would lose a lot on the small screen.

Elvis was trash

It was so bad I'm reconsidering whether or not I liked Romeo and Juliet which was an absolute favorite for me

really? Was on our list to watch. My dad was huge Elvis fan, took me to see him 4x growing up, I appreciate that more now than I did then. trailer looked good/accurate to what air remember.

Most people liked it but there's a huge amount of people that feel like the entire movie was a montage. Pretty bad pacing and directing, people feel the lead was good but was doing an impersonation. Important scenes went wayyy to quick and needed time for them to develop to appreciate the weight and significance. There's nothing about his early life, rather than women reacting to the phenomenon Elvis was and his stardom and popularity, they just went straight to cumming in their pants the first time he danced. Lots of big things lots of little things.

Rather than romanticizing Elvis music like johnny cash's and show why and how the sound was super appealing, it was all just a footnote and luhrman blasted shit like saweetie over his stuff instead to make it feel more modern.

Tom Hanks character is ridiculous (looks bad, acting is bad and.. really not menacing, and the accent is entirely fabricated and unrealistic) and the movie is from his point of view rather than it being a straight up biopic.

Also pretty political. I walked out after 45 minutes but roughly half of that was about how Elvis was stealing black people's music and handful of throw away lines like "you can get away with that bc you're white but I can't walk across the street without getting shot because I'm black".

They didn't show how he accidentally got his start paying to record a song for his mom?

Nope

There's also absolutely nothing done to establish any sort of feelings towards his mom or family whatsoever. Hanks is just watching a concert then follows Elvis and signs him. There is barely anything built, no connecting to any of the characters whatsoever.

It's a music video

That's disappointing to hear

I'm also not sure how I feel about their not using Elvis' actual recordings. I could instantly tell from the trailer that it wasn't Elvis. They did the same thing with Walk the Line, but used the original recordings for Ray and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Seems like if they're doing the story of an iconic voice, they should use the original recordings. I do understand why the actors would want to sing it themselves.

Edit: I see from the soundtrack they did use Elvis' recordings too (maybe mostly), not sure why they would let someone else sing songs like Hound Dog

I was thinking of seeing it.

Oh well.

I am about to subject myself to Jurassic World: Dominion. I fully expect this movie to be absolutely terrible, but I've watched every other movie in this series and they've been absolutely terrible since the third one, so why stop now?

I recently attended a private online seminar with the director, Colin Trevorrow. Let's just say that once you hear the man talk about the film, you very quickly know what to expect when you arrive at the cinema. Low standards, plenty of gimmicks and a great lack of commitment to the emotional core of the original Jurassic series.

I saw it tonight and thought it was good. Some parts of it weren't accurate, other parts of his story were left out, but that's to be somewhat expected. Partly because it was more a story of Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker. Elvis probably lives longer than he did if not for Tom Parker.

Maybe read this after the movie if you're going to see it to see some of what wasn't accurate (and what was)

Ambulance 5/10

I liked Ambulance. Watched it after the chaos of a kid's birthday party. It's a big dumb Micheal Bay action movie that doesn't try to be anything special.

Horrible. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Bad acting, writing, poor plot, directing, editing. How do you make Jake Gyllenhaal give his worst performance by a mile?
