Rate the last movie you saw

God, yes.

I was so excited midway through with the fake credits.

It’s that weird combo of action forward movie where the actors and action are fine, but the rest is so god awful that is just ruins absolutely everything.

I really enjoyed the film. Definitely top 5 of 2022 for me. That being said every time I watch a movie about nihilism I come back to thinking Lebowski is the best movie I have ever seen about the subject. Does so without preaching either.

I’ve heard about this bear before… they nicknamed him Pablo Escobear. Always thought it would be better source material for a comedy than a drama, but not in a million years did I think it would be directed by Elizabeth Banks and starting Keri Russell.

Yeah.... big emphasis on "inspired by true events". Movie would be over after 10 minutes if it was true to actual events. Failed smuggling via plane. Plane dumps a lot of cocaine. Bear eats a significant amount of cocaine. Bear dies. The end.

Some movies I’ve seen recently

Avatar 2: A- I really enjoyed the first one and thought this one was great. Yes it is long. Yes the story I’m sure has a ton of holes in it but I had a good time at the movies and it felt like an experience that you should have in the theater. The visuals are a 10/10 for me. I definitely enjoyed going back to Pandora.

Banshees if Ilshirin: D I did not like this movie. Sure the acting was great but the story and mood just didn’t do it for me. Slow and pointless.

Elvis. C+ Great job by the lead actor but overall I thought it was a weak popcorn movie and Tom Hanks as the Col was just not working for me.

Black Panther 2: B- it was a good sequel considering the main dude died in real life. This felt longer than Avatar 2. It accomplished what a Marvel needs to do. But I’m looking forward to Ant Man more.

The Whale: C Ok I don’t mean to fat shame, but I felt disgusted in a lot of parts of this. It actually is an Ok movie and Fraser definitely deserves the Oscar praise he is receiving but just not for me.

There are two films I do not intend to ever see again because they were so good, and so eviscerating: The Whale, and After Sun.

If you've lost a parent well before their time, just be warned that After Sun will gut you.

Haven't seen After Sun, but completely agree about The Whale. Last scene was one of the most emotional things I've ever seen in a movie. It's been so long I can't even remember the last time a movie got to me quite like that.

Haven't seen the whale, but Aftersun was one of the best films I've seen in ages. It had that kind of ethereal, vivid imagery that reminded me of seeing Moonlight for the first time. Then I learned that Barry Jenkins was a producer on the film and gave notes along the way, and it made more sense.

I don't want it to seem like I hated the whale. I was thoroughly engaged. But it was really flawed.

Arnofksy writes conversation in a completely unrealistic way. A lot was way too on the nose.
