Loved Dune as well, gave it a 9.1/10

After the fact saw it described a 2.5 hour TV show pilot, which is think is a great way to describe it. Went in with no knowledge of it but could tell by the end that they had merely scraped the surface of the story. The next movie hasn't even been officially greenlit yet so unfortunately we aren't going to see more for a very long time.

Again, unfamiliar with the books but can't help but wonder if something with that much plot may have been better off as a high budget TV series.

I watched it last night and had the same exact thought. The entire movie was like an introduction. Thought it was great and am definitely looking forward to the continuation of the story - whenever and however it happens.

I definitely am going to watch it again soon, probably see it in IMAX.

Also loved Dune. HBOMax streaming numbers look pretty good too. It beat Synder's Justice League over it's first weekend run. Hearing that might be enough to get the sequel green lit.

My gut says all this "gotta tell your friends to see it in theaters to get a sequel" is just some guerrilla marketing - I feel like it was planned regardless unless Dune just totally duded.

I found it interesting that Dune part 2 was just now green lit. Like, did they make this half a movie and not think it was a possibility to do the second part? I thought things like this were all shot at once then just cut in half.

Tried to watch Dune and the first 30 minutes are extremely tedious. Girlfriend and I gonna try watching the rest on Friday since the reviews are really positive.

Does it get better?

I never read the books and I turned it off after about 45 minutes as well. Could have been a long day type thing. But it was slow and I felt like I was missing out on important information.

Turned it on the next day and finished it. Thought it was a good movie. Great soundtrack and visuals. Thought the ending of the part 1 was kind of interesting. Didn't feel like a big deal to me (as a non book reader) never felt "earned" for the cliff hanger, gotta watch Dune2 in theaters on release night, type hype. But overall I enjoyed it.

Too much fucking slow motion though. Like we get it bro. Visuals are cool. But 1/3 of the movie was in slow motion. Pick up the pace bitch.

I tapped out about an hour in. At some point, I’ll try to finish it.

No Tim Allen? Pass

Tim Allen is the voice of the toy whereas this is basically supposed to be the show/movie that made Buzz famous to begin with that allowed for toys to be created. I initially was annoyed too but then saw that explanation online and it works I guess.

Finally got around to watching Many Saints of Newark - solid paint by numbers crime story but not sure it's worth watching unless you're a Sopranos fan. I'd give it 7/10.

The most interesting thing I thought was that Dickie Moltasanti wasn't really ever a drug addict. Livia sparked those rumors ironically enough because he was found with the drugs that were actually intended for her.

Christopher basically blames his entire drug addiction on his genes, it's central to his arch in the show, and that being a complete farce felt very Chrissy to me in a sad, helpless way.

I wonder how these streaming services justify big budget films or shows. Do they see a subscription jump?

Never read Dune, or saw the 80s movie. Had no idea what is was about. The new movie was great. Also, Star Wars is totally a Dune rip off!!!

Star Wars is much more of a rip-off of Akira Kurosawa films than it is of Dune, although Tatooine is almost certainly inspired by Arrakis.
