Ya know I found it easier to digest the concept when I framed it as the manifestation of his own depression. I think the self mutilation has less to do with him manipulating someone else and getting what he wanted and more to do with a response to the “despair” he felt. I think self harm was the end game for him based on his own demons and nothing else [/ISPOILERBanshees of inisherin. It was very good, butits a particularly unsettling ending, for anyone thinking of watching.
The only criticism wasactually cutting off his fingers. I understand the artistic decision but practically, and when considering it in the context of the story without the subtext, its impossible to suspend disbelief and consider it realistic.
Difficult watch for sure, but a good film. 7/10
