Greatest defensive players?

I' d take Rod Woodson over Dion Sanders. Reggie White impacted and changed the way defenses are designed. Same can be said for Lawrence Taylor. Best I' 've ever seen is Ronnie Lott. That said, we won' t see a middle linebacker like Ray Lewis again for a while. He was a throwback to when the position was the most important on that side of the ball, the Butkis, the Singletary middle linebackers.
 
Great player, terrible human being. At worst, he's a murderer. At best, he helped cover up a murder and then sold out his friends to cover his own ass. He's one of the few athletes I would have had trouble cheering for if he was a Brown. It makes me sick the way the media/NFL glorify the guy as such a great guy too.

Proof? And besides, if he did play for the Browns, there would be a chorus of excuses and support for the guy (see: Lebron). Get over yourself.

He's just one more example of why I hate Art Modell. Cost me the chance to root for one of the greatest MLBs of all time. Still hurts.
 
I know I should hate Ray Lewis, but he is one of my favorite players of all time. How can you not respect his passion for the game? I wish all athletes had half his passion. Sports would be much more entertaining if that were the case. Sad to see him go, but I will enjoy the Ravens D declining because of it.

Get over myself? Really?

- He lied to police
- He sold his friends out to get himself a plea deal
- Duane Fassett, the driver of Lewis' rented limousine, reluctantly admitted on the stand that after the brawl Lewis told everyone in the stretch Lincoln Navigator to "just keep your mouth shut and don't say nothing."
- Evelyn Sparks, who was riding in the limousine, said she saw another passenger dump a white hotel laundry bag into a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant. Prosecutors say the bag contained Lewis' bloodstained white suit, which has never been found.
- Sparks also said a photograph of Lewis' entourage, taken at the Cobalt Lounge on the night of the killings, was destroyed by Jessica Robertson, a woman described as Lewis' girlfriend. "She said she burned it," Sparks testified.

I'm sure they were just out to get Ray though, right?

Dude, that's a list of things you think you know. Proof would be documented evidence and/or a conviction. I dont know what happened that night and neither do you. You're more suspicious than I am. End of story.

My point is, if the Browns never moved and he had the kind of career he's had in an orange helmet, the commentary would be very different on this board. Care to disagree?

1) That information is based on Lewis himself (he admitted he lied to and misled police), multiple witness statements given under oath, and a bit of factual evidence (that his clothes from the night weren't found). You are correct in that nobody knows exactly what happened that night, but, in my opinion, it's naive to think that Lewis' friends didn't do it and that he didn't help cover it up.

2) I do disagree completely on your 2nd point. I wouldn't have stopped cheering for the Browns obviously, but it would be very difficult for me to cheer for a man who I am confident helped to cover up a double murder. I would have had to just separate the individual from the team.

At the worst he killed someone and at the best he covered it up or helped cover it up. Scum of the earth. Lets not sugar coat what this asshole did.

I feel the same way about Lewis that I do about Garnett.

He was totally involved in that murder, no doubt in my mind.

I just can't do that. If you can, wonderful. There's a lot you have to overlook in sports - there's off-the-field assholes all over the place. I can overlook a guy cheating on his wife. I can overlook a guy getting caught with drugs. But I can't overlook a guy who helped cover up a double murder. I can't respect a man who cowardly lied to police and then sold out his friends to save himself. In this case, I can't separate the athlete from his "personal life."
 
Well, I don't know what happen. There are a lot of "assholes" in the NFL. Guys that are just not good people. I go by what I see on the field. And if you can't at least respect the way Lewis plays, like or hate him, then I'm not sure how you can even like football.

I don't care if no one wants to root for him individually. He's a great player, and no one can take that away from him.

I dislike everything about them. I'm not Wacco for Flacco, I even despise the city of Blatimore, except for the Inner Harbor which was lovely.

It should all have been ours...

Ray Lewis will get his, in this life or the next.
