RCF 2021 NFL Mock Draft: On the clock...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the 7th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select

kyle-pitts-of-the-florida-gators-runs-with-the-ball-against-the-at-picture-id1174731916

Kyle Pitts, WR/TE, Florida

As a former quarterback, Kyle Pitts’ journey to tight end started one day at summer football camp while at Temple. Moved to tight end in an experimental role, his future remained there following that day. At Florida, he became a focal point of the team’s offense. From multiple platforms he proved to be a dominant option in the passing game as well as a serviceable threat as a run blocker. At 6-foot-6, he plays just as big as his size indicates. More in the role of a big receiver, Pitts can align outside, in the slot, or place his hand in the dirt in-line. As an F tight end, his combination of size, athleticism, and hands makes him a multi-level threat for creative offensive coordinators. As a run blocker, he’s sustainable and willing as a one-on-one blocker, but also isn’t afraid to get his face dirty in the box, either. Pitts will need to go to a team that can use him in creative ways with an outside-the-box thinker orchestrating the offense that allows his assets to shine.

Ideal Role: Pitts is best served to be cross-trained as both a wide receiver and tight end as he has lots of value at both spots on the depth chart.

Scheme Fit: The former Gator’s best scheme fit is as an “F” tight end, which means he’s used outside, in the slot, and in-line in multiple ways in both the running and passing game.

Why Pitts for the Lions?

Because the Lions lack offensive talent. Kyle Pitts is the best offensive player in this draft and will team with TJ Hockenson to create one of the most talented TE position groups in the NFL. Pitts himself could easily test out to be a WR. His contested catch radius and his huge wing span allow him to be an ideal candidate to save Jared Goff from himself. Furthermore, With Hockenson and Pitts, you give former TE coach Dan Campbell a position group he can utilize in all areas of the field with extreme effectiveness.

Also considered: Jalen Waddle, Jaycee Horn

Carolina Panthers and @G00seY3 are on the clock.

TRADE:

Minnesota has acquired T Orlando Brown and pick #27

from Baltimore ( @Rookie ) in exchange for: Pick #14, pick #78, 2022 3rd

The Vikings are ABSOLUTELY THRILLED to have just guaranteed Kirk Cousins' $35M SALARY FOR NOT THIS YEAR BUT NEXT YEAR. This, mixed with the best former LSU WR in the league Justin Jefferson and the significant $28M+ investment in RB Dalvin Cook leaves a mandatory requirement that the team reinvest in the offensive line following the departure of veteran Riley Reiff. Minnesota takes the opportunity to acquire a top caliber left tackle who's higher graded than the collection of offensive lineman sure to be available at 14. We're fine moving down and picking up a late 1st to perhaps also address the OL or further revamp the defense in Mike Zimmer's potential last stand as head coach.

Bitter you stole the Vikings from me after years of psuedo-GMing them...but I'll take this.

With the 7th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select

waddle.jpg

Position: Wide Receiver
School: Alabama
Year: Junior
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 182 pounds

After spending all their picks on defense in the 2020 Draft, the Panthers decide to pick an offensive player. Since Carolina missed out on the top 4 quarterbacks, they are looking to build up the offense with talent as they bridge(water) for a Quarterback in the 2022 draft.

Waddle is electrifying and brings big play potential to every snap that he is on the field. To put things in perspective, some players and coaches think Waddle is faster than former Alabama WR Henry Ruggs lll. With a 4.27 second forty-yard dash, Ruggs lll is currently one of the fastest players in the NFL. It would be impressive for Waddle to break that time, but even if he falls short, you are still looking at a sub 4.30 second forty.

Waddle’s unique speed paired with toughness is what makes him special. He is not afraid at all to fight for extra yardage, go up and high point the ball in double coverage, and even throw some blocks on the outside edge in the run game. Waddle’s route running does need some sharpening, but as a whole he displays solid understanding of beating press coverage, finding open throwing lanes in zone coverage, and creating separation. He also shows a fantastic, natural ability to track the deep ball which is his most translatable skill to the NFL.

With the 9th selection in the 2021 RCF Mock draft,

The Denver Broncos select:

Kwity Paye: EDGE: SHITHOLE UP NORTH

We made significant investments in our secondary this past offseason; while we are happy to retain Vonhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2MJcoVKnTIg, he won’t be with us forever. Here’s the scoop:

Paye has it all; size, athleticism, drive etc. I will post more in the morning — didn’t realize I would be up that quick.

@SuperSurge and the reverse cowgirls are now o. The clock

The Dallas Cowboys Select:

Patrick Surtain II

  • Position: Cornerback
  • School: Alabama
  • Height: 6’2″
  • Weight: 202 pounds

Patrick-Surtain-II-NFL-Draft.jpg

Scouting Report (from profootballnetwork.com)

Positives: Large, physical cornerback with a huge upside. Battles opponents at the line of scrimmage, mixes it up throughout the route, and physically beats down receivers to defend the pass. Stays with assignments, remains disciplined, and has a nice move to the throw. Flips his hips transitioning with opponents off the line, effectively covers receivers on crossing patterns, and works to get his head back around and locate the pass in the air.

Gets vertical and battles to defend passes. Rarely challenged by opposing quarterbacks. Fires up the field, possesses a burst of closing speed, and gives effort defending the run. Plays to his size and wraps up tackling. His 87.0 PFF grade in 2020 also led all college cornerbacks with at least 400 defensive snaps.

Negatives: Late reacting to opponents off the snap. Possesses average instincts and gets beaten by ball fakes. Tends to do a bit of face guarding. Better facing the action.

The New York Giants and @Snowblind are on the clock!

With the 11th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select

Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern

images

The Giants expected to solve their long-term left tackle problem with their 2020 selection of Andrew Thomas with the No. 4 pick. But even allowing for some early struggles after veteran Nate Solder's opt-out forced him into the Week 1 starting lineup, Thomas underwhelmed in his rookie season.

His 5.8% blown block rate was the highest among tackles with 300 or more snaps in pass protection, according to Sports Info Solutions charting. That's a major problem for young quarterback Daniel Jones, who, despite cutting his turnover rate in Year 2, tied for the league lead with 11 fumbles thanks in large part to a 9.1% sack rate that was second highest at his position.

Slater is clean as can be on the field and only allowed five pressures in all of 2019 before opting out

BIGGEST STRENGTH

  • Foot Quickness

BIGGEST WEAKNESS

  • Anchor

PROS

  • Feet are as impressive as you'll see from a tackle. Could be a world-class tap dancer.
  • Flies out of his stance. Makes up ground on defenders in a hurry in run and pass games.
  • Processing speed is incredible. Adjusts to stunts/slants/blitzes in blink of an eye.
  • Such a natural athlete. Can play anywhere on the offensive line.

CONS

  • Anchor not ideal yet. Flatbacked too easily on tape and walked into pocket.
  • Size and arm length will scare teams at tackle, although I still think he can get it done.
  • Rarely imposes will at the line of scrimmage. Not a people mover.
  • Didn't get to see him on the field in 2020, as he opted out of the season

Slater could end up at left guard, right guard or right tackle for the Giants.

@KIisKing is on the clock

With the 12th of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select...

Davonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Will update with greater detail after the workday, but in summary, the Eagles need several upgrades at WR if they want to put their new QB in a place to succeed. There are few better options in this draft than the Heisman Winner.

@Out of the Rafters at the Q you are on the clock!

TRADE!

The Los Angeles Chargers have traded the 13th selection in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for:
  • The Cardinals' First Round (16th) selection in the 2021 NFL Draft
  • The Cardinals' Fifth Round (160th) selection in the 2021 NFL Draft
  • The Cardinals' 2022 Third Round pick
  • Offensive Tackle Josh Jones
@DJTJ and the Arizona Cardinals, you are now on the clock.

WITH THE THIRTEENTH PICK IN THE 2021 NFL DRAFT... THE ARIZONA CARDINALS SELECT JAYCEE HORN, CORNER BACK, SOUTH CAROLINA!!!!!

1617135432199.jpeg

The Reasons: Look, I’m the conductor on the Jaycee Horn CB1 train. I had originally planned to trade back, because the Cardinals do really need some help and an extra pick or two would have helped. I expected Horn to be gone at 10, but once it came up, we worked this out really quick. The draft pick package hurts me more than losing Jones, who after a year not dressing, is likely going to be attempted to be moved inside.

The Fit: Look, the defensive line is terrific, and coupled with Isaiah Simmons sudden glimpses of hope, the front seven is really solid, borderline elite when heathy. The Cards get a lot of hype about the offense, but this is a defensive team and city through and through. With Pat Pete’s massive decline (my eyes, they burn), letting him walk was entirely the right move. The Cards recently signed Malcolm Butler, and this eases the burden of Jaycee Horn having to walk in and be the guy. But as many of you have seen me say, he is. Jaycee Horn is the guy. Coupling him with Chandler Jones, Buddha Baker, and at least two seasons of the corpse of JJ Watt was an absolute no brainer, and immediately boosts a unit that really suffered last year with injuries and depth. Jaycee Horn, Malcom Butler, Byron Murphy Jr and if he can stay healthy, Robert Alford is a really solid group, with Horn being the guy to essentially stabilize tenish years at the position, much like Patrick Peterson. The defense is loaded, and the quicker they can get Kyler the ball, the better. This helps dramatically.

@Rookie is on the clock!

edit: sorry for the shit write up, I only access via phone. If you want to know more about Jaycee Horn, I’ll gladly talk about him an annoying amount.

The Baltimore Ravens Select:

Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

Micah-Parsons-NFL-Draft.jpg

Baltimore continues to solidify their Defense by taking one of the most versatile players in the draft. With Baltimore's aggressive Defensive style and culture, Parsons looks to be a good fit. The Raven's blitzes at an extremely high rate, with Parsons explosive speed and his ability to close space will help with their shaky pass rush.

Scouting Via profootballnetwork:
Positives: Insanely athletic linebacker who plays explosive football. Fast moving in every direction, very sudden, and creates turnovers. Covers a lot of area, possesses a tremendous closing burst, and has a violent nature to his game. Easily changes direction and alters his angle of attack without losing momentum.

Forceful up the field and displays outstanding speed in pursuit. Gets depth on pass drops and shuts off the corners from ball handlers. Easily stays downfield with tight ends and running backs in coverage. Very competitive.

Negatives: Instincts run hot and cold. Inefficient getting to the action. Does not drive through tackles. Possesses average ball skills in coverage.

@CBBI is on the clock.

Wow, that’s going to (hypothetically) suck for the AFC North.

Parsons and Queen is a hell of a duo.

WR Kendrick Bourne
LB Matt Judon

And get the following players back from opting out...

We don't lose in New England. 7-9 is unacceptable. We resigned Cam Newton, but we obviously know he's not good enough to lead us back to the playoffs which why we only gave that asshole $3.5M. That's backup money. We spent in free agency. We added weapons. We're getting opt outs back. With McCorkle taking the reins under quarterback guru Josh McDaniels, the New England Patriots are BACK you FUCKERS.

Hate that framing, if I’m being honest.

Didnt look like Belichick’s scowl was directed at the throw, but the convo he was having w/ McDaniels.

Meh, I’ll see worse this draft season, I suppose.

Oh, I know. Just thought it was a perfect response to that pick in the mock.
