CAREER HIGHLIGHTS : Repeated 20+ rebounds in a game, whilst also scoring 30+ points in a game.

OVERVIEW : Just like the number 20 on our list, Tyrone Hill, Phil Hubbard is a born and bread Ohioan. He spent his high school years at Canton McKinley HS, which is the same school new Cavalier Eric Snow attended. But unlike Hill, he moved outside of Cleveland for his college career. Drafted 15th overall in the first round by Detroit out of Michigan, Hubbard spent his first two years of professional basketball playing for the Pistons. He showed some great potential, as a solid inside scorer and rebounder. The Cavaliers liked what they saw and traded future Piston legend Bill Laimbeer to Detroit for Hubbard. This brought some excitement to the Cavalier's fans to have a local Ohio lad in their team.

With so much upside, Hubbard seemed destined to help the struggling Cavaliers out of their funk. But he never quite become the inside influence that Cleveland hoped for, which set up a love hate relationship as he was seen as an underachiever. His scoring peaked at 15.8ppg in 1984-85 and rebounds with 6.3pg in the same season. Not the numbers he was hyped up to be able to produce. However he was forced to mould his game after his knee blew out. He returned solid, but again not spectatcular. Now this may seem a bit doom and gloom for a player to be in the Top 20 list of all time Cavalier's, but that is generally because he was expected to do much more. But in saying that he put up solid consistent numbers (49%fg) in a team that lacked support.

FACT : The Cavaliers never progressed past the first round of the playoffs in Hubbard's 8 seasons in Cleveland. In fact, they only made the post season 3 times in which Hubbard struggled to stay healthy.

WHY AS HIGH AS #19: Hubbard was a solid consistant contributor for the Cavaliers. He was a very efficient scorer and good team man. Another player in this list who never reached great heights, but his solid efforts scraped him onto the list.

WHY AS LOW AS #19 : Never reached the level of play expected of him. When you trade away a legitimate center, you want quality back. He was a good player, but never lived up to the fans or the organisations expectations.

FINAL THOUGHT :It's unfortunate when a player who has produced a lot of effort for a franchise can be remembered as an underachiever. However the fact is, he was a solid player for the Cavaliers for many years, and is worthy of his #19 selection.

This will be a weekly countdown from 20 to the number 1 Cavalier of all time. Comments are welcome!

Thanks for that Kypus. Phil Hubbard is one of 3 assistant coaches of the Washington Wizards.

That's Brendan Haywood Kypus... :chuckles:

That sir is Brendan Haywood. He right now could be our backup center.

Anyways, good to see Hubbard still out and about.

Meh, so it is. He has that "crap, I just fouled out" look. Not used to seeing him play enough defense to foul out :chuckles:
