CAREER HIGHLIGHT : Making the East Allstar Team in the 94-95 season after averaging career highs of 13.8ppg and 10.93rpg.
OVERVIEW : Tough hard nosed player, who's career survived by hustle play. A local boy, who was brought up in Ohio, Tyrone was not the most naturally gifted player, but a talented rebounder. His move to Cleveland from Golden State energised his career, becoming a regular in the starting 5. An in your face defensive player, Tyrone gave his all in his first successful stint in Cleveland before being traded to Milwaukee with Terrell Brandon for Shawn Kemp. His second stint in Cleveland was a less then spectacular stay, with the franchise in a downward spiral. He was moved again when the Cavaliers realised they had a talented understudy in Carlos Boozer.
However he will be remembered most in his time under Coach Mike Fratello. The Cavaliers half court style game suited Hill's rugged ways. Although not a good post scorer, he was the Cavs goto guy in the post as he was manned with players like Michael Cage in the front court. Despite this he was able to maintain an impressive +50% from the field. His inspirational hustle play lead unheralded Cavaliers teams to playoffs in his first four years.
FACT : The Cavaliers have made the playoffs just once since trading Tyrone Hill after the 96-97 season.
WHY AS HIGH AS #20 : His tough play in the paint enabled the Cavaliers to remain a playoff team after the Price / Daugherty era. With no assistance at center, Hill bravely stood tall in the front court and was rewarded with an All Star berth. There may have been more talented players not chosen, but Hill's determination in the Fratello regime gave him the nod.
WHY AS LOW AS #20 : His limited offensive game, and proness to injury certainly inhibitted his career. Also his second stint in Cleveland was less then exciting. Considering his skill level, a ranking of 20 in the all time Cavalier's list is a mighty achievement.
FINAL THOUGHT : Our former #32 had the game which typified the Cavaliers of the mid 90's. He had the respect of all the fans by how tough he played the game.
