I had an idea a while ago to make an internet radio station where a forum like Real Cavs Fans could broadcast forum topics and have call-ins.

Fast forward to this pandemic, and I have been watching a lot of Twitch chess and realized that this platform is an even better version of what I was thinking all those years ago.

What follows is a dirty brainstorm of what that could look like.

As I typed this out I started to realize that doing this could transform the fan/sports interaction scene. It is the evolution of sports talk radio and sports forums.

Terms for the Olds

Streamer

The person in front of the camera
Produces the stream
Sets up zoom windows
Manipulates layout and content on the screen
Interacts with chat

Chat

Chat is the community
This is probably the most important aspect of Twitch
People give subscriptions and points
Basically money laundered through twitch
The kids spam emotes (little icon images specific to the streamer)
Some streamers don’t like it
I imaging RCF wouldn’t go heavy in that route
Emotes are a good way to do inside jokes
Chat is probably the most important aspect of Twitch

Why Real Cavs Fans?
Diverse community
Diverse topics discussed
Strong moderation squelches trolls

Twitch or Youtube

I like Twitch
It seems to have the best tech on the production side

One Channel for Real Cavs Fans

The channel is the umbrella that other streamers can use to stream under
This eventually births into other channels
Strong personalities that get big can start their own channels with their existing Twitch username
This is a trend I’ve noticed several times on Twitch
Fans move quickly to follow the new channels

Streamers are chosen on Real Cavs Fans
Access to the channel
Sign up to be chosen
Voting
Moderators choose

Streamers trade off shifts running the channel
This is a loose time slot system
I’ve also seen two people on one channel and the one person hands it over in realtime
Sometimes it will be offline
Anyone with access can jump on and take over if its offline

What would they do?

Just chatting

Load up the RCF forum in a window and scroll
Talk about what’s being talked about
Watching Youtube clips of sports
Draft talk
Scouting videos and reports
Highlights from previous games
Using videos to talk about sports
Youtube clips to talk about sports news
Deep analysis
Breaking down great moments in sports
Charts and Graphs and the like
Hanging out and drinking
Random Zoom call-ins at all hours
Special guests
Is Windy busy?

Playing NBA2k

Real Cavs Fans playing each other
Zoom video chat screens
Shit talk
Respond to chat
RCF Tournaments

Live commentary during sports games

This is a big one
Couldn’t have the video playing but could have stats screens up
Have a couple commentators in Zoom boxes
Kind of like a super version of the “game chats”

I'm still off work and bored. I've been typing up brainstorms like this on all kinds of ideas, like a crazy person. I am not a man of action. Anybody have interest in getting this off the ground?

@cavman just tried to reboot last November on a platform called discord. I think he realized how hard it is to coordinate what you described. He hasn't posted for a little while, maybe you can get in touch.

I'm not coordinating this.

This would be something I'd tune into and participate along with in the chat, definitely. Would probably wait till the Cavs are playing basketball again as I imagine that would draw the most eyeballs to both this forum on the twitch channel.

Jigo and jays podcast is fire. We all have to make sure we support them. It was so much fun to be there. Maybe if it could last 2 more hours and I could get in everything I wanted to say lol.
