I had no idea what "Guardians" means to Cleveland until someone explained it was about that bridge. So I'm not sure how meaningful it really is to most Tribe fans

Interesting...it's one of my favorite things about the city.

Even if it doesn't connect with everyone, I'd still argue it does more than something random like Spiders.

Can't argue with that.

If you're a westside Clevelander who works downtown and commutes every day, you've probably noticed them before. But I suspect an awful lot of NE Ohio Indians fans either never knew they existed, or did and forgot about them.

I did commute from the westside, but I'm terrible about noticing aesthetics. My wife once wanted to get me something for my office, asked me what color the carpeting was, and I had no idea.

I'd been there seven years.

I like the concept of the art deco Guardians a good bit, but do not think any sort of link to the city or region is necessary...most baseball names are somewhat "random". We could always go the Philadelphia route -- Cleveland Cleves?!!

That sounds like homeless version of the Ravens.
I mean that is like saying the Ravens were a homeless version of any bird name that came before them. It is unique and has a tie to the city. The colors, mascot, uniforms and logo could also be amazing. I am not letting the Ravens impact options.

Can we put as a suggestion “My Dad is Rolling Over in His Grave” as a option?

It is really hard to come up with something cool but not cheesy.

I feel like the goal will be to make the name as non controversial as possible.

I think something water or nautical makes sense. Recent MLB additions have tended to be animals with the Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Devil (Rays).

I'd tend to lean to something animal based because of the above.

Fair points...
So what is an land animal (or bird) that is indigenous to the Northern Ohio area??

The Cleveland Millers

Named in tribute to the late Sam Miller

You know, CEO of Forest City Enterprises, a great Cleveland corporation

Should be worth a few million dollars anyway

Steelheads, Walleye & Buzzards as mentioned. Spiders, however they fall in with the Insect kingdom and not Animalia.

Perch has always been my favorite regional sandwich when I'm near the North Coast.

Bald Eagles have recently re-emerged in population in recent years and decades with climate rehabilitation. An overall badass of an animal as well. Would raise awareness about such efforts heading into the future.

Think of how badass the emblem and gear could be. Also, Cleveland Eagles has a rather nice ring to it. {And even ties into the Rock & Roll Hall}

Similar to Cleveland Browns being named after someone, how about the Cleveland Veecks who are vexed.

I think my favorite at the moment is the Cleveland Buzzards... Cleveland Vultures?
