Renaming the Cleveland baseball team (NOT FOR DEFENDING "INDIANS")

I still like the Titos. The Naps and the Browns were named after managers/head coaches.

Or the Fireboats, in honor of our burning river.

Or the Tribes...not THAT Tribe....the Tribes of Israel, in honor of Moses Cleaveland.

Or the Dropouts, in honor of whomever originally spelled Cleaveland wrong.

Or the Mayflies...or Midges.

Or the Bottle Openers, in honor of Joe Charbineau, who popped the top off a beer with his nose.

Or the Streak...or Streakers...in honor of ten cent beer night.

Or the Rocks, after Rocky Colavito.

Or the Shrooms, again after Colavito, who became a mushroom farmer.

Or the Knifs (fink backward), in honor of Ghoulardi.

Cleveland Captains.

We live on a Great Lake. Oliver Hazard Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie. Red white and blue colors.

This is a layup.

Guardians also acceptable I suppose. But those are the two.

Guardians is my top choice. Obvious fit with the statues on the bridges. Also it plays well with the Marvel world so I can see a lot of synergies there.

Commodores is a fun name. Oliver Hazard Perry tie in is very relevant. We can have a whole boat theme at the ball park. The drawback is Commodores seems like a word that should be shortened but there is no way to shorten it appropriately (Commies, no).

I'd be good with either of the above. No other names stand out for me.

I do believe that a name that is ready built for merchandising will be a big part of the backroom discussions. You are going to have people angry with the change at all and people that will be fine with a change but hate the choice you actually make. I think Spiders is the easiest to work from because there are virtually unlimited ways to use that from versions of Spiders to just using webs. I am expecting Guardians to be the choice though. I think the roll out of the uniforms and logos will go a long way toward the fan reaction to the name. The Browns spent years teasing only a uniform change about 6 years back and then made a horrific choice that immediately pissed off everyone.

I’m about to be 33 and I had never even heard about the Guardian connection to Cleveland until sometime in the last year. Didn’t even know those statues existed.

It would be nice if they announced the finalists and gave the fan base a chance to give feedback. No matter the choice some people won't be happy, but at least this way people will feel like they had a bigger voice in the process.

also have some fun and do a very creative unique alternative jersey that will be different. This is the time to be as creative and bold as you want. Have regular baseball jerseys too, but so something fun that really breaks away from the norm!
