Hell I have no clue what chameleons have to do with the city of Cleveland other than being at the rainforest area at the zoo, but honestly I like it better than at least 90% of the names floated out there, from Rockers and Guardians to everything nautical.

With an animal mascot you get freshness, with chameleons you get an animal that gives no special treatment to colors so it can symbolically be anti-racist.

Animals are always good family fun, kids love chameleons, no need to dust off some old statues...
The word chameleons was something that popped out on a whim but like you I would prefer it to some of the front runner names being proposed. It wasn't actually a serious suggestion other than the fact that it does have an alliterative ring to it.

Having said that and trying to be objective, I can see some positives and negatives. A chameleon could be drawn to be cute like the Geico Gecko but it would be hard to make a tough looking version. Not having any definite colors associated could be a positive or a negative but it seems like you have to just pick a color and go with it.

For some reason when I try to picture what a Guardian would look like in the sense of a team logo I have a hard time imagining anything that would be worth a shit. The faces of the guardians aren't anything to hang your hat on, and if you tried to create an image from the monument as a whole it would just look like a giant dildo.

Just my opinion.

Is Squires really something that is being considered?

Oh, hell no.

The beauty of a chameleon logo is that you can have a blank hat and jersey and just say the logo blended in.

Commodores works for me. Perry, the Hero of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, attained the rank of Commodore. And you've got the alliteration thing going and the connection to the water. You've got a connection to local history, a connection to Lake Erie, and it sounds pretty good rolling off the tongue. No connection to Cleveland baseball history like Spiders and Forresters, but it's a better name.

Guardians is OK, but I think Commodores works better. It's kind of like Cavaliers - who are depicted as fighting swordsmen. Commodore is a naval rank and Commodores don't engage in hand-to-hand combat like swordsmen, but they are associated with battle. Designing a logo will be tough, but I think the name works. If we HAVE to give up the Indians after 106 years I would go with Commodores with Guardians as my second choice.

If marketing merchandise is the priority you go with Spiders. They could have a lot of fun with huge, gnarly tarantulas on T-shirts, caps, etc.
Commodores, eh?

I whipped up this logo, just now, for that concept.

What do folks say?

This hurts my brain. Also there is no way they change to commodores

Also, how do you know?

I like symmetry and your logo doesn’t have it. Though I imagine it is a naval thing I am missing?

I just can’t see Commodores. It sounds old fashioned and we would definitely be called the commies.
