And Municipal has meaning to Cleveland
Very little... the unimaginative name for a stadium owned by the city was Municipal Stadium. Something being called "municipal" because it's owned by the municipality isn't exactly unique.

So because Houston is in Texas that’s a good name?
I never claimed this.
I guess we should go with the Cleveland Ohioans?
That sounds like an awful name. Why suggest it?

Anyway, I’m not dying on the hill of saying it should be the next team name, just pointing out it’s gaining momentum
I'm not sure it is. They came out with it a while ago and it pretty much fizzled out until I saw you bring it up here.

and a local brewery is backing it, whether you like them or not.
I do not--and them sticking their nose into naming a team and designing all of the branding reeks of a lot of things--self-promotion, financial motivation, doing something they have no business doing... to me, it stinks.

And there are similar type names out there in sports.
Eh, I'm not sure this is even the case. All of the examples you listed have more tangential names to their cities or teams... and even if they didn't, I don't see anyone saying those are great names and what we should aspire to name our team after. Just because someone else's name sucks doesn't mean we should pick a sucky name when there are better options.

It’s relevant to the thread. More relevant than posts that say “we should name the team the Cleveland Burning River Rocks Steelhead Trout eating derp derps”.
Agreed.

Haven't gone through all the pages, but surprised Municipals isn't even listed as a voting option. Local brewery Saucy Brew Works has put their support behind the Cleveland Municipals as the new team name.

The uniforms are a little too similar to the Nationals for me, but overall I don't hate the name and branding overall. It's definitely not sexy but it's also not corny or gimmicky either. Most MLB team names and logos are somewhat boring anyway... Nationals, Yankees, Athletics, Twins, Red/White Sox... to name a few. Honestly, anything will feel like a downgrade since the franchise had one of the more unique and iconic names/logo combinations in baseball, so it is what it is. Municipals offers some versatility to go with Munis for short... similar to Yanks/Yankees, Nats/Nationals, A's/Athletics.

I could also get on board with Commodores (ties into the Clippers and Captains), Guardians, or Spiders.

Absolutely would hate Rocks, Rockers, Wild Things, Gladiators, and pretty much anything else I've seen.
No pro sports team is going to go with a logo and jersey designs that someone else came up with and can claim copyright/ownership of. These fan designs are awesome and fun, but once created and posted on the internet it pretty much cements they will never be used. No team is going to pay royalties, that's why they start up committees to research *available* names.and hire firms to design a logo, one they own from the start. As one off jerseys, maybe, but that's about it. It's cool that this alcoholic beverage company made these, but unless they sign away all rights to this, there is no way the Tribe takes the idea. It's the main reason why I've never unveiled my name, logo and jersey design for the Cleveland Purple Nurples. It keeps the hope alive. Municipals sounds cool, but it's ties to Cleveland do not go beyond the stadium. In that case, the Cleveland Jakes should also be in play.

Honestly, I could see a decent chunk of the fan base getting behind that. I'm not saying it is a great idea, but it certainly beats the hell out of anything rock & roll themed.

I could get behind the Cleveland Jakes... Its so ambiguous you could make almost anything out of it.

Might as well just go with Snakes in that case.

I’m still on board with Cleveland Baseball Club. It’s classy, sounds British and there’s no other baseball team with that name out there.

The other thing I like about it is that it’s absolutely fucking terrible. “Club” is a soccer term of art and tbh it’s lame when American “futbol” teams use it for that exact reason.

Why not go whole hog? Can’t you just imagine Lee Dixon and Derek Rae announcing:

“The Cleveland Baseball Club strides onto the pitch for their biggest match of the year. Bieber, their top man, has tossed three clean sheets on the year. Jose Ramirez banged in the equalizer last week in stoppage time so expect a world class match from him today.”

It’s a baseball team not a football club. Stop with this nonsense.

At this point, I will take anything pretty much. Dragons, Blimps, Snakes, whatever.. But "Rockers" sucks.

Here are some of the ones I proposed to pad their list:

Janitors
White Collars
Hard Workers
Lazy Bones
Blue Collars
Friendly Guys
Tough Dudes
Scary Boys
Comforters
Hall of Famers
Almosters
Don’t Mess With Us’es
Gym Shorts
White Tees
Dinosaurs
Evolution
Promposals
Stags
Chonks
Workout Warriors
Great Apes
Humans
The Entire Animal Kingdoms
Relativity
Black Holes
Fusion
Fission
Room Clearers
Sprayers
Environmentalists
Polluters

No clue if they’re using any of these, but I thought some were good and tried to cover all my bases.

Here come the Cleveland Custodians looking to complete the sweep...

Sorry guys, its Friday. I'll give myself at at least a 2 hour ban from this thread...
When you get back, there’s plenty more to sample from.

I'd love to hear Lee Dixon and Derek call a match....errr, game.

Fission for me...release some gamma radiation, and then we are all Hulks. I still get my Marvel branding, but our colors would have to flip to Green and Purple.

Going with synonyms for an area top pastime:
Cleveland Trawlers
Trollers
Sailors
Piscators
Seamen
Anglers

Trying to keep it reel.

Why isn't Steamers the obvious answer again? Someone help me out here.

Municipals? That might be the lamest name in the history of names. It's a non-name. It's giving up and waving the white flag on naming.
