I wonder what the timing on the new name will be? In terms of both announcement and implementation. They’ve already fully committed to the change so I think it would be a PR mistake/disaster to prolong it beyond this final season.

If the new name and logo and uniforms etc are to be done for the 2022 season, how long before the first leak and eventual official announcement?

I just hope that the team name is a Noun of some sort. Can't stand those Verbs, and not fond of the Adjectives either.

If you remember the last season at old Municipal Stadium, the Indians made a big deal about it. They presold tickets for the final series, had collectables made, I think even special tickets.
They could do the same things with the last games of the Cleveland Indians. Including honoring an all-time Indians team. Late in the season bigger crowds might be allowed.

You are correct.. I had seats in front row just beyond RF foul pole for all 3 games (Fri- Sat-Sunday).

Final series was against the White Sox & Tribe pitchers would not give Frank Thomas anything to hit, preventing him from getting any RBI so that Albert took that crown. I believe it prevented Thomas from winning triple crown...

Ground crew made a show of digging up Home Plate after the game (to move to the new park)..
Bob Hope made an appearance.

They will probably do this......and I get why they'd do this........but IF the name is so offensive that we must change it, then it should be changed and as quickly as possible. Their actions belie their words.

I was there too. We did screw Thomas...but we also got swept.

The more time goes on, the more I see Guardians as the ideal new name.

- It has a connection to the city that is really unique to Cleveland
- A guardian is a defender, protector, or keeper. Guardians are selfless; they look out for those who need help or safety. This fits with "Defend the Land", "Rally Together", and other past Cleveland sports slogans.
- "Indians" and "Guardians" are similar enough that, if they wanted to, they could keep the same look and color scheme, just swapping out the script "Indians" for "Guardians"...this would be attractive to me in that it wouldn't be a full reboot
- There's nothing at all controversial about it.

It’s going to be the Guardians. I feel almost certain of it at this point. The Athletic’s name bracket is now down to Guardians vs. Commodores after the Guardians “upset” the Spiders.

Guardians... It has a bit of a military connotation thanks to the Space Force. It's not bad, but don't see it. Same with The Commodores. Also saying your favorite baseball team is the Commodores - sucks.

Setting aside that I'm a staunch defender of the current name and will miss the tradition terribly--forget throwback uniforms or any nod to the team's history--I think the timing for a name change is terrible. Ownership should never have committed to a 2022 name change given labor uncertainty. Do you REALLY want to be celebrating/unveiling/making a big deal of a new name and trying to move away from something many people have affection for when there's a high probability of a work stoppage and another truncated season? What a sorry way to start a "new" tradition. I can't think of anything worse than throwing a work stoppage in the face of fans and then ask them to embrace a new look and buy new merch. How sorry would that kind of "new beginning" be? Nothing should have been scheduled until the first full year after a new CBA is signed. It's idiotic to proceed in the manner they appear to be doing.

That’s a good point that I hadn’t thought of. However, I believe the commitment is to retire the Indians name after this season, not necessarily that they’ll have a new name. They could just go with “Cleveland Baseball Team” for a year and then unveil the new name before 23.
