We need to address the WR room before pulling for a blockbuster deal for a QB, imo.

Make our team attractive to star QBs to come in here.

I don't think Denver has a bad line. It's not as stout as ours but I'm pretty certain it's solid.

The receiving talent on that team + staying on the west coast probably made this an easy decision for Wilson. As of right now, the Browns have Landry (who is likely to be released) and not a single other recognizable name at receiver. That will change but right now, you take a bird in the hand, not 2 in the bush if you're Russ.

My guess is that multiple teams, not just the Browns (but also the Browns) called Seattle about Russ and were told "We spoke to Russell and he said he would not accept a trade to you, thanks anyway."

And that was that.

Which is why Denver pulled the trigger, although they dealt a potential top TE, they still have an upcoming stout WR room. An attractive situation for a winning QB.

Cannot say the same about Cleveland.

I can't believe the Browns couldn't have put together a better package. He must have really not wanted to play here.

That has nothing to do with it. I bet multiple teams would have been willing to offer the same/a little more.

Russell wanted to go to Denver, so he went to Denver. That's it.

I think the fact that this fan base and media have a reputation of running QBs out of town had an impact as well... At some point the carousel of QBs hurts you.

Correct

I assure you this had zero impact on anything. It's as simple as Denver having elite pass catchers and we don't.

If we had an embarrassment of riches at receiver and were coming off of a successful offensive year, we would have been in the running or at the top.

You mean to tell me he didn't want an awesome O-Line just to take coverage sacks?

But we run a 3 TE package…. DPJ is a blossoming beast

I also think the skill position guys thing is a little overblown too.

The truly elite QBs all have big enough egos to where they think any team they go to will be automatically be good because of their overwhelming belief in themselves. I think Russell just wanted to play in Denver and that was that.

I think, if given the choice (which Russ was), he wasn't going to a team bereft of options.

Look at the most recent elite QBs that have moved in FA/Trade.

Wilson-Denver
Brady-Tampa
Manning-Denver

All of those teams, at the time, had major playmakers waiting for a QB. So while I think an elite guy would have faith in himself, the evidence is there that these guys want as much options as possible.

You notice the skills position things is only harped on when a subpar QB is brought into the conversation..................

People usually don't bring up the skill position players when talking about the good QB;s because they know that the good QB's look good regardless who they are throwing to.
