Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’d just really curious to know if Rubio wants to be here after this year. And if so, how he would feel about signing for the MLE if we trade his contract. I almost feel like it’s unlikely and if we trade him, it’s basically saying goodbye to Ricky for good. Which really sucks because I’d love to see him on this team next season.
I get the feeling that whether or not we trade his contract has no bearing on whether or not he's back next season. Any team that trades for him is only going to be interested in freeing up their books for next season, and if Ricky is going to be rehabbing in Spain anyway, it doesn't really matter which NBA team he is a member of for the remainder of the season.

Oh I totally agree that staying out of the tax this year is a big thing. It just feels like malpractice to not even apply just in case an amazing opportunity pops up. There's no downside to applying right?

I did see that Dammarell tweet. I just assumed that he was pointing out a formality and that we had already applied for it. I wasn't aware that these things are public record, however.

If my assumption that there is no downside to applying for the DPE is correct, it would disappoint me to no end if we really didn't bother applying. That tells me that either Koby is not tryjng to overturn every stone to improve our franchise, or that Dan issued a directive to stay out of the tax this year. As a Koby supporter, I have a really tough time believing either of those scenarios is true.

They have garnered interest in Rubio's contract, which is prob why they didn't go for the DPE. I heard today that there might be an issue with not using the DPE and trading the contract and that the CBA is unclear on this? Like the trade could be voided if you try to do both.

IT makes sense. If you can only use one of them, the 17M gives you more flexibility and will keep you out of the tax

To me it seems most likely that he's rehabbing to play out his career in Spain. Probably doesn't want to publicly say it yet.

He's already made a ton of money, I don't think he needs a few more years of the NBA grind before calling it quits. He'll get a big contract in Europe if he wants it.
He has said that he wants to play 3 more seasons in the NBA

Good stuff.

To sum up:

- Really happy to be alive
- Never heard of Pistol Pete
- Put a can of Spam in his microwave and it blew up
- Really digs Disco music
- Bought his sister a bike when she couldn’t decide between cars
- Windler will be out of the league by March
- Sbarros is his favorite New York pizza spot
- His hair is real
- Loves Cleveland, reminds him of Spain.

Fantastic find… Lots to unpack here and definitely worth a listen…

you have a rare ability to make people feel bad to join here

If he doesn’t want to resign here, then they have to move his contract at the deadline to get a viable player. He flat out said he doesn’t like the rumors.
That’s seals the deal. Everyone loved this guy, and still will, but if the contract can net a player to help now, it’s a no brainer. Probably was before this too, but is validated after this.
